SM Bus Controller help please

Ok so ive read a bunch of thread on several sites and amongst this one about the sm bus controller and still haven't been able to get any help.

Ive tried methods and stuff from the other threads but still no go.

This is the 2nd time reformatting xp on this pc the first time was going from vista. ( as this pc was a vista compaq stock )

Last time i had the same problem trying to find the SM Bus controller along with a few other drivers.

I have almost all of them, but at the least all that are necessary accept..

After getting my sound driver still no sound, due to this SM Bus controller which i still can NOT find out how to get or where to get it.

Other threads people have said they needed it etc with the same specs as my pc but when i use the links posted there usually to another audio driver or something that dosent help.

im a noob with PCs but i really need the help to get my sound back and i can check up on this thread as well as use msn to chat with anyone who is willing to help

to clear it all up got my sound driver but still no sound but i guess i need the sm bus controller but i cant find it anywhere

my pc is compaq sr2170nx model with all stock parts

please contact me with some help as soon as anyone can i know this is a re accuring thread / problem people have but any help here would be much apriciated.

still no luck i tried both those sites

im thinking i need someone with team viewer or a program like that that is willing to help, and knows what they are doing.

Preferably tech from this forum or something couse i have tried everything i swear and im left at every dead end there is.

I know this is not a physical problem because i did this before from vista and had the same problem but got it fixed some how.

Sry the first link is for a cd/dvd firmware update. What is the name
of the pc, is it just called a compaq sr2170nxq , any other model
numbers or name on the case.

You need the chipset driver, which Vista should have had . .for XP, you will need to install it before any other drivers . You may be better off reinstalling, and then install the Chipset driver first, then the other drivers.

The Chipset driver should be on the HP support site

Seems hp is not supporting the swap to xp.
You will have to dig around for
this to work...

Links were dead....You might try calling hp support, maybe they can
walk you through there website, Im having little luck.

1. uninstall sound driver
2. uninstall video driver
3. install chipset driver
4. reboot pc
