Drivers for Winfast Nvidia 9600GT card not working correctly
I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R motherboard that has two high speed PCI Express slots. It was working perfectly for 6 months with my Winfast 9600 GT card. Recently I tested a couple of different cards, including 2 at once. This has completely stuffed my system.
I have done all the usual things - uninstalling and reinstalling, even trying a different brand of card (ATI) but the result is the same. With my 9600GT card in Slot1 I can install the drivers, change the resolution to 1920 x 1200 but when I reboot it goes to 640 x 480 and cannot be changed. If I put the card in the other slot the result is the same. If I uninstall the drivers then start in Safe Mode, install the drivers and set the resolution before rebooting (the resolution does not change in Safe Mode) it will start in normal mode with the correct resolution, but if I reboot after that it is back to 640 x 480. This is becoming a bit tedious having to do this each time I start the computer. It seems the drivers are looking at the wrong slot and it must be some residual key in the Registry. Does anyone know where this will be so I can exterminate it? I have looked in device manager for hidden devices and no other card is listed. There are no conflicts showing. The problem is not with the card, the motherboard or the original drivers as I have a dual boot system and the alternative boot system works correctly. |

Re: Drivers for Winfast Nvidia 9600GT card not working correctly
Hello and Welcome to TSF,
First boot up in safemode uninstall all drivers and software for the cards in add/remove in control panel reboot pc in safemode, use drive sweeper. Drive Sweeper: http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D--...er)_d1672.html Now install the video card you wish to use bootup pc in regular mode install video driver (after driver installs, do not change anything yet in the configuration) reboot pc now you may change any settings you want to Tip: if you would like to use 2 video cards, then install 1 at a time and follow my instructions on installation method. If using 2 different brand cards, say for instance: ATI and Nvidia, this could lead to a driver conflict.

Re: Drivers for Winfast Nvidia 9600GT card not working correctly
I have done this numerous times and still the problem persists.
I contacted Leadtek and they suggested updating the Bios but I cannot find any Bios update for this board. I have the Gigabyte progrem @Bios that came with it and it reports 'No file found' on searching all the sites listed. |

Here are the bios updates:
http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Mothe...ProductID=2842 Note: Look up your version first in the bios to see what version you are running before updating the bios. Also important, I wouldnt try the beta versions. It also wouldnt hurt to backup the bios before updating them just in case.

Re: Drivers for Winfast Nvidia 9600GT card not working correctly
I found the bios but cannot get in installed.
The first time, when I rebooted a message came up 'Restoring bios from hard drive'. So I tried again and on boot up got this message 'Checksum error - restoring bios from dual bios' So I assume from this the bios has not changed. Certainly my video card problem is not fixed. It did however fix a problem I had with an alternative boot system. I had problems installing programs, errors such as 'Cab file corrupt' were showing up. Since the bios has been restored (to the original I assume) not only have these problems vanished but the alternative boot system is very fast. If the worst comes to the worst I will just have to build this alternative system up to the same as the main one. This took me several months as it is extremely complex, which is why I would prefer to fix it rather than start from scratch. I might contact Gigabyte and see what the problem might be with upgrading the bios. |

Re: Drivers for Winfast Nvidia 9600GT card not working correctly
What kind of programs are you installing that is saying cab files corrupt?
this is serious here. Could you take a screen shot of the task manager with all the processes that are running it please and post it here in a zip folder.

Re: Drivers for Winfast Nvidia 9600GT card not working correctly
As mentioned above, this problem is now solved with the bios recovery. I have now given up trying to get my original system working properly and am setting up the alternative boot system.
I have had this problem posted on Experts Exchange for some time and not solution has been found. How do I close this topic? |

you can mark thread solved under thread tools near top of this page.
We are not experts exchange here, we are TSF and we could probably get to the bottom of this if you would like to?...otherwise do the above, ty.
