do i need a driver?

my computer is not picking anything up when i put my memory stick from my camera in or when puting a cd in with photos do i need a driver? is my 1 missing?

in the device manager click on view at the top and in the dropdown
show hidden devices
then uninstall all listed usb items
turn the computer off
unplug usb plugs
reboot twice
replug in the usb plugs

thanks my usb ports are working now butt still not picking up my memory stick from my camera or my photos from my cd any ideas about that
