No audio in Windows XP installation
I successfully installed Windows XP in a dual boot configuration along with the factory install of Vista. I downloaded all of the applicable drivers for my Gateway FX laptop computer from the Gateway driver support site. All the drivers installed perfectly. All but the audio drivers. I have no sound in my Window XP system. When I attempt to install the drivers, it all seems to go as it should, until the end when I get a window that says "Cannot start this hardware. There was a problem installing this hardware: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC This device cannot start. (Code 10)" And then an error message stating "Configuring IDT Audio Device and Applications Exit Error: Error-Device object not present, restart the system and run setup again".
So, I am stuck, any ideas? |

Re: No audio in Windows XP installation
HI,
What errors do you have in the Device Manager (yellow!? or red x)? Please post all errors. Can you also post the exact model number of this Gateway laptop? Is this a legit XP install with Keycode? |

Re: No audio in Windows XP installation
Thanks for responding. The laptop is the Gateway P-6860 FX. I have only gotten the yellow errors from the Device Manager.
Yes, it is a legal purchased copy of Windows XP with Keycode. If it would help, I will go through the process again and attach all screen shots. But I won't be able to do it for a couple of days. |

Re: No audio in Windows XP installation
Hi,
Can you post the errors you have in the Device Manager or is it just the Audio driver that is in error? Is this the driver you attempted to install? http://support.gateway.com/support/d...&uid=234173190 Have you tried to install the driver manually through the Device Manager? Also, what service pack is installed (SP2, SP3)? Bill |
