I inherited a Dell XPS Gen 5 machine with the hard drives stripped out.
I am installing 2 new 320 Gb WD drives w/ XP. I want to configure them as a raid but I do not have any disks for this machine. I am looking for the raid drivers. Also this is my first crack at setting up a raid configuration. Any advice is welcome. Thanks |

Re: Looking for Dell XPS RAID drivers
The first thing you have to do is make sure that the motherboard supports RAID. If it does than you can mos likely get the drivers from the manufacturers website.

Re: Looking for Dell XPS RAID drivers
The motherboard does support raid but the available drivers from Dell do not list a raid driver.
I have already configured the drives to raid in the bios. When I start loading XP it gives me a stop error after it loads all the generic drivers and that is as far as Ican get. I am assuming I need to load a third party driver for the raid. Thanks |

Re: Looking for Dell XPS RAID drivers
Hmmm if you can find one (I looked via google but had no luck) I'm not even sure how you would install it. The traditional method seems to be to hit F6 when prompted when installing the OS for the first time.

Re: Looking for Dell XPS RAID drivers
Try this one if you do not have a floppy on the FDD controller I would slipstream them on to a XP disk> http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=235720
Or from Intel> http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...ition&lang=eng Last edited by wrench97; 04-17-2009 at 02:25 PM. |

Re: Looking for Dell XPS RAID drivers
Thanks Wrench97.
I believe I have found the right driver for this machine after your post. You made me aware that the driver was called the Intel matrix manager. It was in the driver list for Gen 5 machines the whole time under SATA drivers. I was just too ignorant to realize it. Thanks for the enlightenment. |
