asrock k7v88 sound driver sysaudio.sys issue

hey guys,

I really hope you can help.

I have an asrock k7v88 mobo, i recently bought a new sata hdd.

I did a reinstall of windows xp on my old ide hdd, the options i had on the xp disk were install with drivers or install without drivers, i chose to install with drivers and received a bsod with the error relating to sysaudio.sys. at the time i searched the net and found that there is an issue with the sysaudio.sys file and the onoard sound on my mobo, (i do not have any other sound cards installed), i have been unable to find this information again, hence this post.

i then installed xp without drivers and had no further issues.

i have now installed xp on my new sata drive.

i tried to install without drivers however when i got to the first restart, (after windows has loaded setup files to the disk), the pc froze with a black screen, just after asking if i want to run the dvd.

i think this may be an issue with sata drivers although i tried several versions from my mobo supplier.

i then proceeded to install xp with drivers which again gave me a bsod with the sysaudio.sys error.

being a computer programmer i decided to do a hack. when the first restart came up i inserted a miniPE disk and accessed the hdd.

i unpacked the driver.cab file into a folder and changed the name of the cab file to cabOld, i then restarted and reinserted the xp disk.

when the setup asked for files from the driver.cab file i directed it to my folder containing the files.

when asked for the sysaudio.sys file i hit cancel and continued with the rest of the setup selecting the files as needed.

windows installed and i proceeded to install all my programs, (this took a few days as i use a lot of programming applications).

however i have just noticed that my sound is not working, i have installed several versions of my audio drivers to no avail.

i have an unknown device in my device manager which after uninstalling came up as "MIcrosoft kernel system audio device" when it trys to reinstall it asks for the sysaudio.sys file from my xp disk.

obviously i dont want to install this file as i know it will cause bsods.

is there any way i can fix this without doing a complete reinstall and does anyone know what the issue is between the onboard sound and the file?

sorry for the long post but just trying to provide as much info as possible.

mobo: asrock k7v88, processor: amd xp3200(before the 64bit version), RAM:2gb ddr, grafix: Geforce fx5200.

any other info required please ask.

Have you tried the drivers here (install the VIA drivers first, reboot then install the audio driver)?

Re: asrock k7v88 sound driver sysaudio.sys issue

hey again,

i managed to fix the problem, i hooked up my old hdd as a secondary drive and looked to see if it had sysaudio.sy in the driver folder, it had, so i re installed the driver in device manager and when it asked for sysaudio.sys from the xp disk i told it to look in the drivers folder on my old hdd, job done.

thanks for your help.
