First off, I apologize for posting a new thread in two different arenas. I erroneously posted in the Windows XP forum first and I don't see any option to delete/edit my OP.
Onward to the real issue: I "downgraded" my Compaq CQ60-214DX to Windows XP SP2 following a guide on this forum. There were a few bumps in the road but I eventually got all of the cautions/errors to disappear in device manager. My only remaining issue is that the audio doesn't work after the laptop goes to standby. My only option is to restart to get the audio working again. It looks like there is a lot of duplication in my device manager but I'm really not sure what "normal" is. I have attached a screenshot. Thanks for all that you do, Phillip. |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
Hi,
When it comes out of standby is there any errors in the Device Manager (before you reboot)? The Device Manager looks normal. Bill |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
Ok,
Lets see if this will work. Go to Device Manager Find the modem Double click on software modem Doubleclick again. Click power management tab. Uncheck "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" If you do not find this option in the Device Manager try the Control Panel>Modems and see if the option is there. Bill |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
Hmm, I'm not seeing a tab for power management on the modem.
The tabs are General, Modem, Diagnostics, Advanced, Driver, Details. For good measure (and to make sure I'm not losing it), I opened up the Realtek nic properties and I see the power management tab there. Am I looking in the wrong place? I forgot to click "show hidden devices" before and now that I clicked that, I see one caution for Serial (ROOT\LEGACY_SERIAL\0000) under Non-Plug and Play Drivers. I'm not sure if this is an issue or not but just in case, the message reads: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device. I restarted the laptop to see if the caution disappears but it's still there. I attached a screen shot of Device Manager again. |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
The Serial Device
You can uninstall this device and reboot. It should not reappear again. You screenshots are tough to read from my end, but I am curious as to what the BEEP error is (red Something) The nic may cause the issue if it is set to wake from lan in the BIOS or if you have the option to disable it in power management: uncheck "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" Bill |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
I think the Beep is the system beep. I tried to enable but it wouldn't allow me. I'll try restarting after removing the other Serial device.
I think the screen shots automatically resize to a smaller size but depending on your app, you can resize to Actual view and it should blow it up. At least that's how it comes up on my machine. And the NIC was already deselected for 'Allow device to bring computer out of standby. The option that is selected is 'Allow computer to turn off device to save power.' Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
I was able to enable that Beep after a restart and the Device Manager doesn't have any more warnings/errors. It's prettier now
.Still no sound after standby though. |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
I installed the hotfix but it didn't fix the standby issue.
That gave me an idea to test out some hibernation scenarios: 1. I disabled standby and enabled hibernation. I resumed Windows after hibernation and the audio works after hibernation! 2. I enabled standby and lowered the hibernation time to have hibernation kick in after standby to see if it would "fix" the audio. It wouldn't hibernate. 3. I resumed my session after the laptop went to standby, disabled standby and enabled hibernation. It wouldn't hibernate. So it looks like once the audio stops working, it prevents the machine from hibernating. |

HI,
Which driver did you install for the Audio? You stated you used a thread on the forum. Can you give me a link? Bill |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
I was able to force hibernation by going to the Start Menu and choosing Hibernate and the laptop hibernated. Surprisingly enough, it revived the audio when I resumed the session.
I then went to standby and it still killed the audio. But hey, hibernating is better than restarting. |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
Is this the driver you used:
Audio: http://www.mediafire.com/?dg0cmmkm4y4 Unzip to a folder. Run installer. If it errors use device Manager. From Device Manager: Right click "Audio Device on HD"and choose Update driver Select the following: No to connect. Install from a list or specific location. Don't search I will choose the driver to install. In the list of common hardware types, scroll down and select Sound, Video, and Game controllers. Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware". Click on "Have Disk". Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".Ignore XP when it complains Reboot Also what Chipset driver did you install? Bill |

Yes that is the audio driver.
I'm almost positive this is the chipset driver - intel chipset. |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
It appears you have the correct drivers installed and the Device Manager shows no errors.
Do you see any errors in the Event Viewer under Applications or Systems? Under Services and Applications is Windows Audio set to Automatic? Bill |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
Hi Bill,
1. Windows audio is set to automatic. 2. Application event viewer has no warnings/errors. 3. System event viewer has one error and one warning message but these only occurred a couple of times in the past week. They did not occur when I restarted, went to standby and came out of standby (the usual recipe for killing the audio): Error message Event Properties Event Date: 3/10/2009 Source: ipnathlp Time: 8:10:25 PM Category: None Type: Error Event ID: 32003 User: N/A Computer: Description: The Network Address Translator (NAT) was unable to request an operation of the kernel-mode translation module. Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
HI,
Do me a favor and disable the modem (Dialup) in the device manager. See if the Audio will work coming out of stand by with the modem disabled. Thanks, Bill |

Re: CQ60-214DX audio doesn't work after standby with XP SP2
HI phamngoctan,
Can you Go to the Device Manager>Right Click on the error>Properties>Details Tab Post the info you find under Device Instance ID. I may move your post to a new thread as I am not sure if this thread pertains to your issue. Thanks, Bill |
