[SOLVED] Blue screen follows re-installation of Intel 2200BG
I have a problem with a Toshiba PC running Windows XP Pro. Following wireless connection problems (could not get on line even though WiFI was strong) I disabled and re-installed network adapters. For 36 hours everytning worked fine, then I got a blue screen crash. The error message said it was due to the re-enabling of Intel PRO 2200 BG Adapter. It again crashed immediately after I started t up again in normal mode. It wll now only work in safe mode. I contacted Intel who recommend I delete existing wireless adapter, and upload an improved version from their website.
Since I cannot get online in safe mode, I need someone out there to tell me if it is possible using a different PC to download the re-installation adapter onto a thumb drive, then re-install into the Toshiba? Is this sensible or is there a way of getting a wired conection in safe mode? |

Re: Blue screen follows re-installation of Intel 2200BG
HI,
Yes you can download the driver to the thumb drive from another PC http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...bmit=Go%21 Then use the thumb drive to transfer the driver to your Toshiba. Bill |

Re: Blue screen follows re-installation of Intel 2200BG
I used a thumb drive to follow Intels recommended route whcih was installing their "Intel(R)PROSet/WirelessSEStub Sep Program", (12.2.0.0_x32 Application file) as they told me I did not have to uninstall anything, the program would remove the adapter and replace with an updated one. However, When I loaded it and ran via a thumb drive, two problems arose.
Firstly, when I ran as the administratorm with the bx ticked "protest my computer and data from unauthorized program activity" it came up with the error message "A device attached to the system is not functioning". Then when I unticked the box and tried again, it got as far a "preparing to install" and then came up with a meessage"The system admnistrator has set policies to prevent this installation". I used the route Control panel > System> Device Manager to look at the Adapters, but in safe mode there is no way of telling if they are faulty. Please advise how to change the administrator setting s to allow this program to run. |

Re: Blue screen follows re-installation of Intel 2200BG
Hi,
Have you tried to install the driver in Safe Mode? Are you on an Adminstrator account when you try to install the driver? Bill |

Re: Blue screen follows re-installation of Intel 2200BG
Yes, I have tried to install in Safe mode using the administrator account. If you read my previous post it reports the difficulty I had . to repeat...(with spelling mistakes corrected!)
"two problems arose. Firstly, when I ran as the administrator with the box ticked "protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity" it came up with the error message "A device attached to the system is not functioning". Then when I unticked the box and tried again, it got as far a "preparing to install" and then came up with a message "The system admnistrator has set policies to prevent this installation". So I need to know where in the Administrator settings can I change something to allow this program to run? Last edited by sgfthailand; 03-03-2009 at 07:59 AM. |

Re: Blue screen follows re-installation of Intel 2200BG
Problem solved. The PC remained active in Normal mode long enough to run the packet from the Intel via the thumb drive. Safe mode was preventing me from running it before.
All seems to be OK, no blue screen for an hour. thanks for all the help |
