HP w2207h Driver Not working?

I'm having an issue with my new monitor.

It's hooked to my computer through a VGA cable, and my computer is a custom built, AMD Athalon 64X2 dual processor (2.31 GHZ each) 2GB of RAM, with 150 GB hard drive, running Windows XP professional. I've had my computer for a year this month.

Ever since I hooked the HPw2207h monitor to my computer, during boot, after the startbar loads but before the desktop is fully loaded, the screen goes black (but it doesn't say auto adjust).

Someone told me it sounded like a driver problem. So first I updated my graphics card driver, an Nvidia GEforce 6100 n405. That loaded fine.

Then, I went here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...roduct=3543988

And downloaded the driver. The driver says it's from October 2008, but when I go into my Device manager and look at the driver, it constantly tells me that the driver is from November 20, 2006.

Does this mean it's refusing to use the new driver I've downloaded? I've tried automatic install, letting HP install, running a manual install from the read me instructions.

I have no idea if the system blink is even a driver problem to be honest. Thanks for any insights.

Re: HP w2207h Driver Not working?

I have one of these monitors, and use it successfully with a KVM switch, so the environment is quite challenging. I have however found that, on my 4 year old XP computer, the 1680 x1050 resolution of the monitor did find the weaknesses of the Radeon card installed in that machine.

Have you installed the monitor driver from the CD that came with the 2207? This does seem to help the video driver to identify the monitor it is playing with.

Am I right in thinking that you have an onboard video chipset, and that the board only has a a VGA output? This may be heresy, but for the larger resolutions I prefer a separate graphics card and the DVI connection. You don't need an expensive card, except for gaming; I'm using a GEForce 7300 SE card quite happily on my main Vista x64 machine. In the case of the 2207, you also need to use a DVI to HDMI adapter, but I have not found this to be a problem, except that it makes the cable even stiffer at the point of connection and inhibits pivoting (which, fortunately, I don't use).

Hope these thoughts help.
