Re: realtek driver issue
Go the your motherboard's manufacture site, download AND SAVE the full Audio Card Installer from there. Run the installer from your hard drive.
In the case of my home PC, I went to the MSI site (my motherboard) and downloaded and saved the RealTek Sound Installer from there. Ran the installer from my hard drive, AND wrote the installer to CD for future use. Sound Cards are different from other driver installs, in that you must install the whole package which includes the drivers AND management software. It's all-or-nothing.

Re: realtek driver issue
Hi,
XP3 can cause issues if it is installed BEFORE all the drivers are up and working correctly. It contains a UAA driver that is not compatible with some hardware. See if this will allow you to install the drivers: http://boredsysadm.blogspot.com/2008...-hd-audio.html In most cases you may have to uninstall SP3 and then reinstall the drivers: How to remove SP3: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950249 Bill |

Re: realtek driver issue
I deleted sp3 and reinstalled the drivers but that didnt work. I then decided to reinstall windows and start over. I am now running xp pro sp2, I havnt done any of the windows updates, i installed the newest drivers for my motherboard from the xfx site. Still not working, I get the same error. I have no idea what is going on.

Re: realtek driver issue
well i got my new MOBO and am having the same problem, so i guess it wasnt a bad audio chip. The xfx guy must have been wrong. I am running xp pro sp2 again with all the newest realtek drivers installed. here is the screen shot you requested.

Re: realtek driver issue
HI,
I do not "see" where windows has detected you sound card. Enter your BIOS and make sure the ON-Board Audio (Sound) is enabled. Bill |

Re: realtek driver issue
I have the same problem with a Realtek HD audio driver for my recent build. I can boot off two different hard drives to test the problem. With the same driver CD from the MB manufacture, in this case for my ASUS P5GC-MX/1333, the HD audio driver installed successfully for Vista 32-bit and I get sound.
Did the same procedure for my drive running Windows XP SP2 and I get the error, showing a failed install, and I cannot even uninstall the driver, says driver may be needed to boot PC. My BIOS has HD Audio enabled. I'm tempted to try AC 97 legacy setting and switching the connection on my MB to see if that makes a difference, at least in Windows XP SP 2. |

Re: realtek driver issue
Ok, this is what I did to get it to work. In my case, when I install the drivers from the CD from the motherboard manufacturer, the Windows installation also starts up, which starts to set a System restore point and interrupts the CD installation, and asks if I want to search for the driver as well. Instead of agreeing to Windows to search for my drivers as I did in my previous attempts, I cancel the Windows installation, and the CD installation which was interrupted proceeded to install properly, and then I restarted. This was after three attempts at re-installing the OS. In my previous attempts where I agreed for Windows to browse for the drivers concurrently with the CD install (because I thought it was part of the CD install), it would fail with an error message that the co-installation manager, or something of that sort, was not valid, which told me that both can't run at the same time.

Re: realtek driver issue
Well i fixed it, although unconventionally. I bought a sound card and plugged it in and low and behold windows detected both the new sound card and the onboard sound card. I then reinstalled the realtek drivers and took the new sound card out. Everything works great now. Am gonna return the sound card tomorrow :)
Thank you very much for your help |
