Artec COMBO52x16C DVD/CDRW won't recognize blank CD

It refuses to recognize a blank cd, but will burn to cd off of one that already has items priorly recorded. I have looked on the Artec website and cannot find what I need. Any suggestions?

try another brand of blank cds such as Maxell CDRs or Verbatim CDRs. also upgrade the firmware for the Artec Combo-52x16c drive to version 2.10 (do Google searches for this version of the FW). I've recently flash updated my friend's Combo-52x16c CD/DVD drive over the Memorial Day weekend to v2.10 and it now works well on his computer.
