xbox pc controller with FIFA08 game - SP3 driver?

hi

thanks for reading.

i've done a stack of online research about this one, with no luck. hopefully one of you can point me in the right direction.

FIFA 08 doesn't recognise our xbox controller. the game maker's support says the driver must be "version 6.0.5435.0, dated May 20th 2006, or later"

that driver comes from microsoft in an old executable file called "XBOX360Eng" but it isn't compatible with service pack 3

the current driver just doesn't do the job. what to do?

my gaming 5yo son (and his coach) are keen to get it going. it was all fine on FIFA07 until the disc got scratched

HI,
I am not a XBOX guru, but have you tried a MS Update using the Custom option?
Once scanned and on the left of the screen (under drivers) it may install a newer version of the driver that is compatible to SP3.

yes, tried that one. no luck there. i'm going on EA's (the game company) advice that the driver must be the one i mentioned.

that advice was in october 07 and i haven't been able to find anything more up to date. i'm not sure if sp3 was in action at that point but they're still selling the game. their support forum seems a bit off the mark so i posted here instead.

the xbox for pc controller is listed as 'supported' but only with that driver (which is no good for sp3). it all seems like old advice and i'm surprised there isn't something good now.

maybe i have to roll back to sp2. is that possible? advisable?

You could try to roll back or uninstall SP3:
