Sound drivers not working.
Hello, I am trying to play the game Planetside, I have contacted SOE and they think it is a sound card driver issue, my sound card is a Realtek HD Audio output, the driver date is 1/6/2009, so I cannot figure out why it will not work. I will post what SOE told me, they talked about a codex or something, which I am not familiar with.
"As far as the sound card is concerned, please contact realtek. Ask them about the card: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_147BA601&REV_1000 which is that sound card that you have. Ask for the following 2 things. The newest driver and make certain that you have the correct sound codex! Very important. I wish I could help you with this but its their hardware. A word of caution for the program that looks for your driver updates. These do not always deliver the correct drivers. I strongly suggest that you call Realtek. The description that you gave me makes me think that this is a sound card issue. Don't forget the video card though." I just updated my video card with the driver they gave me a link to. Anyways, has anyone worked with this sound card before who could give me some advice? Thank you. |

Re: Sound drivers not working.
Hi,
This is the driver: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false But before you install it, do you have any errors in the Device Manager (yellow!? or Red X)? Is your sound working other than when playing this game? Bill |

Re: Sound drivers not working.
I don't think so, heh how do I look at the device manager? And yeah my sound works fine with everything else.
**EDIT** Also, just now when I was trying to get the driver in the link, it went to a thing where I had to accept the terms, I checked the box, clicked next, then it brought up a page that said "Object moved to here" and here was a link, so I clicked it and it just sent me back to where I was before, so it keeps making me go in circles. Re: Sound drivers not working.
Hi,
To get into the Device Manager: Start>Right Click on My Computer>Properties>Hardware Tab. Post anything in yellow !? or Red X I do not think you have a sound issue as you have sound when running other apps, but this one. Are you running this game from CD or Internet? Bill |

Re: Sound drivers not working.
Hi,
I see no issues in the Device Manager. You also state you have no issues with other sound apllications. I would uninstall the game and reinstall it. You may have gotten a bad download. I also went online and installed the game, but it took almost 2 hours to update the logs and such before I could even play it. You also need ADOBE flash play ver 6.0 or higher. What version of Adobe Flash Player is installed? Bill |

Re: Sound drivers not working.
I am using Mozilla, and I installed the codecs and still nothing, but I uninstalled my old codecs, and as I was installing the codecs, these error messages were popping up. About 5 of these. I put a picture on to show you what I am talking about. By the way thanks for all your help so far, lol I would never have the patience to do this by myself.

Re: Sound drivers not working.
You may have other issues.
What is your Antivirus /Spyware program? Have you run FULL Scans? What codecs did you uninstall (old)? Have you tried to reinstall the sound driver I linked you: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false Seeing I do not know what codecs you uninstalled I am not sure if this will help. Re: Sound drivers not working.
I use free AVG for virus scan, which runs at 6am every morning, and I use Spybot - Search and Destroy for spyware.
I reinstalled the codecs, and well it did help, I was able to stay in the game for a lot longer, before I wasn't able to even get near a big battle, but this time I was in the middle of one, everything was fine, then it froze up like before. So I think we are moving in the right direction. And I have no clue what codecs I had before, heh...sorry. |

Re: Sound drivers not working.
HI,
Your original issues was no sound when playing the game, not a freezing issue. This is the first time I heard of this Do you have sound now when playing this game? After you scan you system did it come up with any infections? If the computer is freezing up on you I will need complete specs of your System. Thanks, Bill |

Re: Sound drivers not working.
I am so sorry, I forgot I sent my original error message to SOE and then came here to ask about the card, I got the two mixed up, I thought I already told you about the freezing issue, my apologies. I will give you a dxdiag, what else would you need with that?
**EDIT** My sound does work, now, but as I said before I forgot I didn't tell you that I had freezing issues. Last edited by BCCOMP; 02-27-2009 at 05:15 AM. Reason: Attach Report |

Re: Sound drivers not working.
Hi,
Does the computer lockup (Freeze), when playing this game only? Does your Anti-virus show any infections? Some issues that can cause freezing Overheating: Have you checked to make sure your fans and vents are clear from dust/dirt? Use a can of compressed air to remove dust /dirt from fan and vent ares (especially the CPU Fan/Heatsink) Memory: A faulty stick of Memeory can cause this issue Run Memtest86+ under my signature to test your memory for errors HARDDRIVE: Have you performed a Disk Cleanup, Error Checking (Full) and Disk Defragment on your system lately? Power Supply: A weak or low end PSU can cause freezing issues if it can not provide enough power to run your Video Card plus all the other computer components. There is a tag attached to the PSU that list ALL the specs. Please post what you find on this tag Video card: If the video card is under powered or overheating it may fail prematurely These are just some issues. PC Wizard (Link attached under my signature) will test your Temperatures and Power Supply Voltages. Can you post what you find. Last edited by BCCOMP; 02-27-2009 at 05:36 AM. |

Re: Sound drivers not working.
Fans are moving well and clear of dust.
I tried to run that memory thing...but I found no .exe or anything in the zip file. The ReadMe didn't tell me what to do either. I have done Disk Cleanup and all that recently, was clearing out memory. My power supply is brand new, and I don't remember the exact specs, but it is a high end one. Here is the PC Wizard thing. Re: Sound drivers not working.
Hi,
To Run Memetest you need to download this file: Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip) Unzip the file and Burn the ISO as an Image to CD Install it in the CD_Rom and reboot from CD first. This will boot from CD and run the program. Bill |

Re: Sound drivers not working.
In you CD Burning program (Nero, Roxio) you should have the option to burn as an image.
What is your burning program? Bill |
