Another Crazy emachine problem
Hi all. Sort of a strange situation here.
I have an emachines t5048 model and I reformatted the hard drive with an oem copy of windows xp media center edition. The installation went ok with nothing unexpected. I downloaded and installed the system's drivers from the emachines manufacturer website, opened all the .zips on winrar and proceeded to install. From there I went to the /cab folder in C drive and went on to attempt to install. The first one I went to install was the chipset driver which ran an install wizard and oddly enough an error pop up came up with something to the effect of 'unsupported platform'. I'm assuming this meant something like a compatibility issue, like it's the wrong driver for that cpu. I double checked the drivers and found no errors. I then tried to install the bios driver which told me that the current bios was the same as the driver bios, I continued with the install anyway. Upon the installation wizard prompting a reboot the computer boots into the emachines logo and then quickly goes to a black screen with a underscore blinking onscreen. The prompt doesn't give a message or accept keyboard entry. It will not boot further. However, if I put the windows xp media center boot disc in the cd driver and restart, the system will fully boot into windows xp as if nothing is wrong. Remove the cd again and it fails to boot. any ideas? |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
Hi,
Seeing you reflashed the BIOS, I would enter the BIOS Setup and check the configuration. The reflash may have caused some changes from your orignal setup. Bill |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
I reinstalled and am trying the drivers again. This time went same as last, all the driver with the exception of bios would give some sort of error message, either 'could not find the device onboard', 'files missing from install to complete installation' or anything of that nature. The mobo bios goes down fine and installs fine but fails on restart.
To focus on just the installation of drivers without changing bios setups or anything : OS is installed, drivers need to be installed, to my knowledge I'm installing them properly. So why is this occuring and how can I fix it? I can't see the error messages being right considering that the drivers came directly from emachine's website with no tampering. So I'm out of ideas. In device manager, the audio device, the pci simple communication controller, the sm bus controller and the video controller are all under the other devices list. Assumably they have no drivers. Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
Hi,
It is possible that this is not an e-machine board. Have you owned this since it was new? Can you run Everest under my signature and attach the report so I can "see" what Hardware you have. Bill |

Not sure how to host and post the report. It comes up as an html file. Any ideas?
I could email it to you if you want. Last edited by fifthmanstandin; 02-22-2009 at 10:36 AM. |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
I cracked it open and the mobo is an Intel Desktop Board d101GGC. My understanding is that the T5048 model should have a Grant County Mobo as seen here
http://cedcomputerservice.com/emachinemotherboards.aspx and as far as just eyeballing it goes I'd say it's the same one in my machine. I'm gonna try to get the drivers off the intel website and see if that works |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
Did you install the Intel chipset drivers first?
Pick Quick Report and Plain Text from the Report tab in Everest, attach the report .txt file from the advanced message box just as you would a picture. How to Post a Screen Shot |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
Try using the Intel Installer utility get the ISO here and burn it to a cd using something like Ingburn,
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...s=88&submit=Go! http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
It seems that the iso worked for the most part but the PCI Simple Communications Controller is still uninstalled in the device drivers. The iso didn't take care of it so I dunno what to do. I don't even see an emachine driver for it. Any ideas?
Thanks again wrench. |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
Looks like a Conexant Modem try this one> http://www.download.com/Conexant-D85...9_4-56417.html
Also the 12v rail on the PSU is reading 11.8v keep a close eye on those are known to fail and take motherboards with them. |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
Hi,
I believe the Modem is a Conexant HSF Modem (From your report, Thanks) Quote:
Chip Number: CX11252-11 Chip Description: HSFi PCI Internal Modem Try this Driver: http://www.conexant.com/support/md_driverdownload.jsp Click on Modem Driver Assistance Accept the aggreement Scroll down to: HSF Generic Modem Drivers Select: PCI 4/18/2006 1.58MB HSFp_WinXP.zip Can I also gives use a newer report or a scrrenshot of the Device manger so we can 'see' what errors are remaining. Thanks, Bill PS- Wrench97 thanks for the backup |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
Thanks a lot to both of you guys. Real life savers.
seems that the driver took care of it. That it for the uninstalled drivers. Seems that everything's checking out ok. |

Re: Another Crazy emachine problem
Sounds like you are all set, but as Wrench97 stated:
If this is the Original E-Machine Power Supply I would replace it. E-machine PSU are NOTED for going bad and when they do you will most likely being replacing the PSU, Processor, RAM and Motherboard. Bill Last edited by BCCOMP; 02-22-2009 at 03:12 PM. |
