I have a philips DVD + RW drive . When computer goes on standby the DVD + RW does not activate on start up I get error message code 42 - there is a duplicate device running. If I go to device manager and uninstall dvd+ rw then retart computer the device works again until computer goes on standby and then on resart it fails again

Re: CODE 42 duplicate device

Hi,
What is the make and model of this computer?
Is this the only DVD-Rom on this computer?
Do you have any errors in the Device Manager (yellow! or red x)?
If so please post all errors.

Thanks,
Bill

Re: CODE 42 duplicate device

Hi Bill,

Computer was built by someone else. Two rom drives, one is CD rom the other DVD RW- this is the Philips one with the problem. Warning sign in device manager is coloured yellow and if I right click and uninstall it solves problem until I go on standby, then problem starts again.

Amy help appreciated

Re: CODE 42 duplicate device

Hi,
How are these drives connected (SATA/IDE)?
Is one set to master and the other set to Slave (IDE)?
How is the BIOS detecting them Secondary Master, Secondary Slave?

Bill
