hdaudio soft data fax modem with smart cp stopping hibernation and/or system standby
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-C190 running xp with the most recent service packs installed.
Whenever I try (or the machine tries, based upon power saver settings) to put the machine into standby mode or hibernation I get a message saying the device driver for the "hdaudio soft data fax modem with smart cp" is stopping the system from going into standby. Now, I have no use at all for the fax modem, so I have no problem with disabling or uninstalling it. I have: 1) used the device manager to disable the fax modem 2) used the device manager to uninstall the fax modem On both occasions this worked when the machine was restarted (soft boot.) However, when the system was completely shut down and powered back up the fax modem apparently re-installed itself and I encountered the same message as before when going into standby/hibernation. So, my question is "how can I stop the fax modem from re-installing itself?" Note: I have also tried to update the driver files to fix this problem, with no success. The driver update appears to require a file called softpaq.exe that I cannot locate. Thanks for any help, pahawkfan |
