I recently installed XP on my computer that had Vista on it. That's right XP instead of Vista lol. Anyway, I can't seem to connect to the internet now. In Device Manager it has a yellow exclamation mark next to Ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, and Video Controller. Also next to plug and play software device Enumerator and my DVD device as well. I cannot connect to the internet to try and update drivers. I am pretty computer illiterate so please keep it simple. Thanks!

Re: No internet
Hi,
Welcome to TSF. What is the make and Model of this computer? Did you make a backup of your Vista OS? What version/SP of XP did you install? Bill |

Re: No internet
The computer is one that I purchased off of craigslist, so I am sure it is a little bit of everything, but the motherboard and main components are Hewlett Packard.
I did not make a backup of my Vista OP, it was failing to load anyway, hence the XP install. I installed XP Home Edition. Thanks Bill! |

Re: No internet
Hi,
I am going to need to know the exact make and model number. Is there a tag on the tower anywhere? or underneath (Laptop) Is this a laptop or desktop? Bill |

Re: No internet
Lets hope not,
You could run Everest under my signature and post the report to the thread. Of course you will need to download Everest on a working PC and Burn to a CD or use a flash drive. Run the program and transfer the report to the working computer and attach it to the thread. The other option is to open the case and get the numbers off the Motherboard. I will also need to know if you have any PCI or any additional cards attached to the motherboard or if they are all ON-Board. Bill |

Re: No internet
I am pretty sure that the only other thing connected is my video card. Other than that, I have tried to burn everest 2X to a disk and run it on my other PC unfortunately it is failing to recognize that I have a cd in the drive yay! So it seems like I will have to open the computer up. If you have any ideas let me know, I will open up the computer tomorrow. Thanks for all of your help Bill!

Re: No internet
Hi Csadcock,
Is there a yellow ! mark on your DVD-Rom in the device manager? If so Right Click on the error and select uninstall and reboot. XP has built in drivers for your CD-Rom. Did you get any errors during the install of XP? This is a legit version of XP, correct? Bill |

We can try to get the network card working, but the chipset driver should be installed first. If you Right Click on the Network Controller error (in the Device Manager)> Properties>Details Tab. Post the VEN/DEV numbers under device instance ID. Bill |

Re: No internet
The numbers indicate you have an Intel Pro/100VE network adapter.
Here is the driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...Name=&lang=eng You will need to download and burn to CD or use a flash drive to install it. Did you uninstall the CD-Rom driver and reboot the PC to see if that corrected your CD-Rom error? Bill |

Re: No internet
What is the XP Service pack number?
Right Click My Computer> Properties. In the General Tab it should state a Sevice Pack number (ex. SP2) Bill |
