I/O device error

hi,
ok i want to install cod4 on my computer but everytime i put in the disc the loading screen does not show up.i try to go into C drive but get the message cannot open because of an I/O device error.
i have checked my drivers and the computer says they are working fine and the hardware installed is the best that can be put on.
can someone please help me its driving me crazy
also its not just the disc because i tried my friends disc and also i cant install world of warcraft lich king either.
