[SOLVED] Refresh rate[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

After reformatting I've discovered that the refresh rate for my system is crap. I have no idea what my video card is and I went to Dell and downloaded the recommended one for my service tag and nothing. When I drag anything the refresh rate is super slow. In "Device Manager" I have the yellow "???" under "other Devices" It lists Multimedia Audio Controller, Video Controller & Video Controller (VGA Compatible). I've set the settings differently but it remains the same ?????

Dell Dimension 4700, Win XP (SP 2)

I did go to the dell site and input the service tag number. I tried the recommended driver and that did nothing. There were 3 others listed. i tried those also but nothing.

Re: Refresh rate

Did your monitor come with a driver? Dells stock drivers usually work, but to be sure go to the manufacture's site and download their driver.

No drivers that I can see on the "User Documentation" disk.

Re: Refresh rate

Well it would be one of the drivers listed on THIS PAGE depending on which video card you picked when you purchased the system.

OK ... So I downloaded the recoomended driver for that system and the message I get now is:

The INF file does not contain information for this systems hardware.

Set up will exit.

It specifically calls for Intel 82915G Express Chipset Family. Where do i find out which chip set I have and does it make a difference ?

Not sure what card is in the system. I opened it up but I cannot find any identifiable info on the card itself

Re: Refresh rate[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Try downloading this one.

to install:
Quote:
1. Double-click the new icon on the desktop. For example labeled R12345.EXE.
2. The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or unzip to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R12345.EXE. (Example path). Write down this path so the executable (Example - Setup.exe) file can be found later.
3. The Self-Extractor window appears.
4. Click OK.
5. After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor window is still open, close it.
6. Click the Start button and then click Run.
7. Type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R12345 in the Open textbox and then click OK.
8. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

Re: Refresh rate[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Hello ,

lets try this

go to your device manager

select the devices that are in question by right clicking them then selecting (properties ) then brows the window untill you find the selection to (rool back the driver)

then select (roll back driver)

you may have gotten an update from microsoft that was an update for those drivers

and they could of gotten corrupted during the install and preventing you from doing any other installs

so if you roll back the driver it could put them back to a state of stability and return your system to working order so you can manually install the proper drivers for your system

it happens and the culprit may be microsoft for this issue

let us know

I'm sure when this is resolved everyone will give themselves a "Shoulda had a V-8" slap, but we aren't there yet. For all three devices with the yellow question mark I get "No driver files have been backed up for this device"

Multimedia Audio Controller
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Re: Refresh rate[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Hi RetiredVOMA
Right click on each of these errors>Properties>Details Tab
Under Device instance ID post the VEN/DEV number you have for each device.
This will help narrow down the drivers

Re: Refresh rate[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

HI,
As far as the VEN_1002/DEV_5B60# you posted the graphic Card is a ATI Radeon x300 PCI-E card.
So this should be your Driver:
http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=159269

Your Multimedia Controller VEN_8086/DEV_266E point to:
AC '97 Audio Controller/ Sigmatel (SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio)
It is not listed on the Dell site. Is this Card On-Board or PCI ADD on?
The Only driver on the Dell site (On-Board) is this:

http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=122481

Yes they are. Everything is up and running just fine. Now I need my son to come and get it.

Again my thanks for the help and patience in my attempts to explain the problem.
