Re: XP Grapich Driver Problem! Maby More!
Hi NatePed,
When you downgraded from Vista to XP you need to reinstall some drivers. Can you go to the device manager and post any errors (yellow !). If this is a Dell Laptop XPS GEN 2. Your drivers are here: http://support.dell.com/support/down...&catid=&impid= Be sure to install the CHIPSET driver first. Hope this helps. Bill |

Norwegian: USB Device, SM-busskontroller, Ethernet-kontroller, PCI Device and Skjermkort (VGA-kompatibelt)
English: USB Device, SM-Buscontroller, Ethernet(not internet dont sure what it is on english)-Controller, PCI Device and ScreenCard (VGA-compatible(t)) That was all with a yellow "!" |

Re: XP Grapich Driver Problem! Maby More! [Moved from XP Support]
Hi NatePed
Install this first (Chipset Driver). This will take care of the SM Bus Controller http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=149851 On the other drivers you need: If you run EVEREST (DO Not download Advertisement) under my signature and post the report to the thread. The report will give me what is in your laptop as far as Hardware. I can then get you the rest of the correct drivers (Instead of guessing) for you. Thanks, Bill |

Hi Nateped,
![]() Yea there is alot of info , but it is in Norwegian. No problem (I hope)![]() So here we go. Did you install the Chipset driver? If not do it before the rest of the drivers. Chipset: http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=149851 Video (Graphics): http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=145776 Network Driver Lan: http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=114367 Wireless LAN Driver: http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=207280 Install these and then go back to your device manager and tell me the remaining errors you may have. Thanks, Bill |

Re: XP Grapich Driver Problem! Maby More! [Moved from XP Support]
Sorry about that. It is hard to read Norwegian.
You have to go into the Device Manager. Then right click on the errors>Properties>Details Tab Post the VEN/DEV numbers you find. Also do you have any USB Devices connected that I am not aware of (webcam, printer)? Is your sound working? Bill |

Re: XP Grapich Driver Problem! Maby More! [Moved from XP Support]
And one more thing. Windows update doesn't work get this error:
Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install high-priority updates for your computer) Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted) Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with troubleshooting, if needed) To make sure these services are running: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. Type services.msc and then click OK. 3. In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click Properties. 4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply. 5. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button. 6. In the list of services, double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and then click Properties. 7. In the Startup type list, select Manual and click Apply. 8. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button. 9. In the list of services, double-click on Event Log and then click Properties. 10. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply. 11. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button. But i cant get Automatic Updates enabled! When i try to enable it i get this error message: Could not start Automatic Updates on Local Computer/Disk error 1058: Service could not start, maybe because it is deactivated, or because it doesn't hav any active device connected (the error its on Norwegian so it a bit hard to translate) |
