I've decided to update my Nvidia 8800gt video drivers (Vista 32bit), as I haven't done so in ages. I did the obvious thing to do, and went to their website, downloaded the driver (I think it was) and tried to install it. The installation bar went about half way and stopped. Then about a minute or two later the screen went black and unresponsive, and after about 3 minutes I rebooted.
I searched around some more and found out that i needed to uninstall my old driver first, so i went to My Computer -> Properties -> Device manager -> Display adapters and tried to uninstall "NVidia GeForce 8800 GT". Again the screen went black, and again I rebboted after 3 minutes. Then I came here. Anyone got any ideas of what to do? Maybe I was too impatient? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Need help updating video card drivers!
Boot into Safemode. Check in the Device Manager and uninstall the driver. Reboot and Download the Nvidia driver. There is a Nvidia automatic check on the same page that selects the driver for you.

Dose your screen just go black when tying to update?

Re: Need help updating video card drivers!
Thanks for all the help guys, I had some trouble installing the new driver after disabling old one, becuase I thought windows kept reinstalling the old one, but it turns out i just needed to run the set up program for the new one. (I'm fairly sure its updated anyway to be sure?)
Thanks again for the help. |

Re: Need help updating video card drivers!
in the device manger go into properties for the video card and click on the driver tab and see what it lists as the driver
