Synaptics Pointing Device Driver Error

i think i posted my SOS in the wrong section first. today i found out my actual problem is with a driver, so im now here at the driver support section!

i have a windows vista home premium operating system on an Acer Aspire 4920 laptop. when i bought the thing, it came with a program called synaptics pointing device driver installed that disables my touchpad when i plug in a USB mouse.

a few months ago, i suddenly started getting this error message where it says "Unable to Connect to Synaptics Pointing Device Driver, uninstall some ps2 driver and install external driver or something like that", followed by another message saying "windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working" when i try to access my mouse icon in the control panel.

now both my touchpad and usb mouse work together at the same time. but i cannot scroll with my touchpad.

if anybody could help me, i'd really appreciate it! thanx!
