dvd not working? drivers installed?

yesterday i was burning a dvd. the next day i went to play a audio cd and it wont even read. I have tried a DVD and it wont read any type of dvd. I checked the bios, the dvd rom recognized. Second, i checked the device manager, and everything checks out fine. no error code. DVD rom shows up on my computer fine. Next, i tried to delete lower and upper filters as shown http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/ I put in a dvd and nothing happens, sounds like its spinning. I have vista on inpirion 1501. I am out of ideas. help please.
