generic widescreen tv .inf

Hi, I have recently upgraded my main system and found that i had enough spare parts left over to build a media player box for my TV.

The problem i am having is that: as the TV is connected via an svid cable it cannot report to the computer what it is, thus the computer is simply using the default monitor driver.

This works perfectly 'as designed' and allows me to use the TV as a monitor at 800*600 or 1024*768, but as it is a widescreen TV, this cuts off the top and bottom (due to its built in 'best fit' system). i would simply switch to a widescreen rez but the default monitor driver does not have anything low enough to be useful (the first wide rez is 1280*768, which fits vertically, but has something like 100 pixels cropped from either side).

What im really looking for is a generic low rez widescreen driver. (im guessing but i think the tv will take up to around 1024*682).

Iv had a couple of attempts at writing my own .inf file but despite the first attempt loading in and reporting as installed, still only offered the same rez's as the default driver, and since then windows always tells me the file does not contain information for my hardware (which is a good trick given that windows doesnt actually know what my hardware is).

So, if someone could please write and/or direct me to an appropriate file, explain how to write one myself (which will actually work) or any other explanation for how to get the desired rez (without a hacked inf file) it would be greatly appreciated.

Im running XP SP2 (32bit) on an HP pavilion 431.uk with old ATI 7000 card (tho i dont actually think any of that is relevant to the problem at hand)

thanks,
OOPz
