Pretty Urgent driver help needed - Realtek ethernet
I moved into university last saturday and have been without the internet since then and as time goes on it is more and more urgent that I get it sorted.
Basically when I connect my computer to the internet socket in the wall with a Belkin FastCAT 5e Snagless Networking cable I get no response out of it. Looking at the picture below pretty much shows all the problems. When clicking on "diagnose and repair" from the connect to a network thing I get the box at the bottom of the picture. ![]() ![]() http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/6809/helpbs8.jpg incase picture above doesn't show. I really don't even know how I got this Realtek driver (might just be standard) or it could be that the cable is a Belkin which is not compatible with it. Another possibility someone mentioned to me is that the networking card is faulty or something. Can someone please guide me in the right direction to obtaining the necessary drivers or whatever else it is that I might need. I wasnt sure how to find out what kind of networking card I have but the basic specs of the computer are: AMD Phenom X4 250 GB SATA HDD UDMA 300 7200 8MB Logitech 2.0 S-120 Black Speakers OpenOffice 2.3.1 AMD Phenom Quad Core 9850 (4 x 2.5GHz) 2MB Black Edition ASUS SKT-AM2+ M3A78-EH S/L 5200MT/s Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2 PC-6400 800 MHZ (2 x 2 GB 800) - Lifetime Warranty Restore DVD & Original Operating System DVD Creative Audigy SE 7.1 ThermalTake W0106RB 700W TOUGHPOWER CABLE MANAGEMENT BLK Black & Silver ATX Tower Case Samsung DVD +/-RW 18x6x18x8 D/LAYER Black (IDE) 4 X USB 2.0 Ports Motherboard Integrated Ethernet Lan (Broadband Ready) Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 64-BIT (Genuine DVD & COA Included) 19" Standard LCD TFT Monitor 8 MS Standard Slim Keyboard ThermalTake Blue ORB II ASUS 896MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 PCI-E 2.0 I would be eternally grateful if someone could help me as my course properly starts next week and really do need internet access for that. Re: Pretty Urgent driver help needed - Realtek ethernet
Go into the device manager and right click on the Realtek and uninstall it. Then backout and reboot. Windows will reinstall the driver.

Re: Pretty Urgent driver help needed - Realtek ethernet
If you have qualms about your drivers, go here
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us And navigate (motherboard -> socket AM2/AM2+ -> M3A78-EH) then pick your OS (Vista64). Then grab the RealTek LAN driver (works for Vista 32 and 64 bit) Sometimes, similar drivers will install for similar devices of the family - and you'll get that problem; you'll need the specific driver from the guy who bundled the device (as opposed to the one from the manufacturer of the device). In your case, since the RealTek LAN came with your Asus motherboard, it would be best to get the driver from Asus. Bad cable is easy to test - try someone else's (I'm sure they aren't lacking if you're in a university dorm) Bad LAN chip - wouldn't know how to fix it, but you could always get an ethernet card on a PCI slot if things don't work out. |
