Random Display Problem
Ok, very sorry if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find out because the search tool on the site wasn't working for me.
Recently ive been having display problems, where the screen will do about 3 different things at completely random times. The first was an uncontrollably flickering screen, which would usually start in game. I eventually figured this to be something to do with the refresh rate, and it seems that it has been fixed since I changed it. The most common one, which also happens in game, is hard to explain, so i have a print screen of it when it happened whilst I was playing spore. ![]() Imagine that, but on a bigger scale. Sometimes my computer recovers, sometimes it crashes. The third type is where loads of black rectangles flash all over the screen for a few seconds, before disappearing. Usually this is followed by a black screen. This happens mostly on the desktop it seems, if not just on the desktop. With the last two of these problems, sometimes a blue screen comes up where I get a message saying something about a memory dump. At other times the problem recovers and I get a message in the bottom right corner saying "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Reading into this problem on other sites, I read that this is very similar to a video RAM problem, but the message about the driver not responding is making me think it isn't that, but that my driver is corrupted possibly? Recently I downloaded a new display driver, and ive also been having problems downloading most things recently. It seems that almost everything I download corrupts because the download finishes early. Could this have happened to the driver I downloaded? The most irritating part of the problem is that it happens at no specific time and it is completely random. My specs are: Intel core2 duo E4500 2.2GHz 2.0 GB RAM Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT I really hope that there isn't a problem with the graphics card, because I bought it last year for quite a bit of money, and it wasn't easy putting it in. It might also be worth mentioning that when I first got the graphics card, I was advised to buy a new power supply too, and so I did. But when ran the computer, the new power supply died. So I got a replacement, exactly the same, and the same thing happened. The people I bought them off accused our computer of been the source of the problem, but I blamed there stock. I decided to stick with my old one, even after they told me that it would eventually go the same way. And it has been fine ever since, despite the fact im supposedly using a power supply which cant handle the new graphics card alongside everything else. Is it possible that is causing this problem? |
