new PC with virgin drivers
Sorry if this is asked 100 times a day, i really dont understand drivers. I just built a system with an E8500, asus p5q deluxe, duo 4870's and 4 gigs of corsair reaper ram. My PC is running very.. very slow, even with temps at good levels. Im thinking drivers may be the cause because their more or less virgin. The drivers ive updated so far are (from asus website) Intel chipset, LAN, audio and from the radeon sight, the newest video drivers. Im hoping im missing some as the slow speed is very depressing.
If u could shed some light on how to search for/install drivers id greatly appreciate it, thank you. |

Re: new PC with virgin drivers
Hi Matt
Can you describe just how slow you mean? What do you mean by "duo 4870's"? Crossfire? What Power Supply are you using; manufacturer & model? What sort of Temps & Voltages are reported in BIOS? What size & speed is the RAM? (2 x 2GB 1066Mhz for example) |

Re: new PC with virgin drivers
sorry for the lack of info, im at work right now but ill check the voltages as soon as i get home. My psu is a HX1000? corsair, 1k watt. From bios it showed my motherboard idle at 39 celcius and my CPU at 42 celcius, which seems ridiculous concidering i got a thermalright 120. When i was gaming, speed fan showed my CPU go from 39 (its idle temp) to 44-45 and my cores go from 39 to 47-49... is this bad?
Thanks for the reply. Oh and PS the ram is ddr 1066 2gb x 2 Last edited by Matt_w; 08-26-2008 at 07:29 AM. |

Re: new PC with virgin drivers
Hi Matt
I was only asking about the Power Supply to rule it out as the cause of any problems, as a lot of folk don't realise the importance of a properly powered system. I would imagine a Corsair 1k would be up to the task. It's my experience that a system will run faster when everything is "virgin", as there is less crap on the hard drive and in the registry. So I'm interested as to what you consider slow. Have you benchmarked your system? Is Wndows XP up to date? Have you disabled all Windows Services you do not use? If you have anti-virus installed; have you tried with it disabled, along with every other non-Microsoft program or Service, just to check the results? What sort of % CPU Usage are you getting when things are slow? How are your Hard Drives set up? Here's a handy download...... http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...Temp_2.60.html Last edited by Houndog777; 08-26-2008 at 09:25 AM. |

Re: new PC with virgin drivers
Also, i know this isnt the forum for it, but is 50 degrees C for my CPU cores, 45 degrees C for my CPU itself, and 39-40 degrees celcius for my system bad? (under 50-65% load), this is according to speedfan.

Re: new PC with virgin drivers
Hi, it's not bad but it's not good either. Sorry if that sounds vague.
Max temp for it is 70C+ http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2...570E8500).html I'm just trying to figure out why RealTemp wouldn't install for you. Are you sure you loaded the Chipset drivers etc? |

Re: new PC with virgin drivers
If you get the error message that the driver could not be installed because of Admin Privileges; right-click on the program icon and select from the menu, Run As..., which will let you run this with the appropriate privileges if you have them.
Are you logged on as Administrator? |

Re: new PC with virgin drivers
Hi,
It's explained here, right at the start........... http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/docs.php Also has info on how to calibrate the software. (Your temps look fine) Have you tried any benchmarks yet to see what sort of performance you're getting? http://downloads.guru3d.com/Benchmarks-&-Demo's_c6.html http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads4.html Is it slow during game-play? With your spec it should be flying. |

Re: new PC with virgin drivers
sigh, just ran 3dmark vantage, for 4k fps on the first part 6k on the seconds, went to load the 3rd and windows encountered an error and closed, so now i cant try it agian. Even tho the fps seems fine, it was glitchy, like.. every 5 seconds or so it would almost skip a frame, just a little choppy. Im sure this isnt normal.. im really losing my patience with this system.
