Angry XP machine driver issue[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Whenever I try to install a driver from the cd-rom on a older windows xp machine, the install fails and when it reboots it will not start windows the little activity bar in the startup screen stops moving and the computer freezes. I am able to go into safemode remove whatever driver I attemptd to install and then it boots, I try re-installing the driver or even installing the driver in safe mode no go.... does anyone have any clues?

Re: XP machine driver issue

Try making a Drivers folder and copying the driver to that folder. Then point windows to it.

Re: XP machine driver issue

all that is on the cd is an .exe there is no way i can extract the drivers. Unless you know how to extract the drivers from an .exe file. Do you think i should try another wireless card and see if its just a bad driver? I ran a scan and got rid of a bunch of virus's that was on there. I am going to try to install it from the executable once more and see if it makes a difference. Could there possibly be an issue being cause due to a lack of ram?

Re: XP machine driver issue[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Sounds as if the driver you are trying to install is not compatible with XP, make sure the componete and driver are made to work with XP.

Please tell us what brand and model the computer is and what part you are trying to install, also include the brandand model of the part

Re: XP machine driver issue[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

yea it is compatable, here is my solution, dont buy cheaper products from newegg just stick with the name brands. Its supposed to be compatable but the drivers are bad and therefor the card is not installable. Windows picks up and has the drivers when you try to install the same thing happens upon installation they say do not use windows to install drivers use the installation program. The same thing happens freeze and poof kills it all. So my solution was I took my card out and put it in this machine. I am going to call newegg and get my money back and ***** at them. I am going to have to go to the store and get one for myself. It all evens out!
