[SOLVED] No network adapter after Ultimate upgrade
I purchased an Acer Aspire M3640 pc in France with Vista home Premium on it without realising that I couldn't have an OS in english. The shop wouldn't change it so on a trip to the States, my husband bought an upgrade to Ultimate SP1 which has language packs installed.
I had to do a clean install instead of an upgrade as the languages were different between Premium and Ultimate and I now have no internet as there is no network adapter showing on device manager and I can't download anything on that pc. I need to know how to find the correct drivers to download and install as I have limited paperwork, a blank recovery cd from Acer and not a clue where to look! The Acer support page lists drivers to download but I don't know which ones should be installed. Please help! |

Re: No network adapter after Ultimate upgrade
Hi, Katche
If you have'nt installed any of the Acer Motherboard drivers then download all the obvious ones and install them, starting with the Chipset Drivers. The Chipset Drivers are the most important and may include Ethernet Drivers. Also download the LAN drivers. Disable anti-virus before installation and restart the pc between driver installs. http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...ire_m5640.html Remember to choose Vista SP1. Is LAN/Ethernet enabled in BIOS? Is BIOS in English? |

Re: No network adapter after Ultimate upgrade
Thanks for replying...Yes the BIOS is in English now. Have gone through all info on BIOS but unsure whether LAN/Ethernet is enabled. I have downloaded all the drivers and will install them now but have to say am not completely confident about where to put them!

Re: No network adapter after Ultimate upgrade
Have just successfully installed the drivers !!!! Got the internet !!!!
Can't tell you how relieved I am to have achieved that as the alternative was having to deal with the shop or Acer on the phone in French! Thankyou so much for your help...I had visited the Acer site but until you said to download the chipset as well as the others, I was scared to do anything in case I made things worse. I appreciate you helping me despite the lack of details in my post, thanks again. |

Re: [SOLVED] No network adapter after Ultimate upgrade
Hi Houndog,
Everything seems to be in order, no yellow exclamation marks etc. I had downloaded a driver search programme called Driver Detective but couldn't use it as had no internet. Would you advise using it or leaving everything alone now my pc is working? |

Re: [SOLVED] No network adapter after Ultimate upgrade
Hi, if it aint broke, don't fix it!
I've tried out all those Driver programs (and had to fix the comps of others who've used them) and TBH; they are a menace. They ALWAYS tell you to update drivers, even when you have drivers that are newer than the ones they want you to use. (makes me angry.........lol) |
