[SOLVED] having problems with chipset driver...

Hello, i am new here and im looking for some advice. i recently purchased a compaq presario f700us notebook with vista as the o/s. i wanted a notebook to play all of my old games on, which are xp only games.

i have the nvidia GeForce 7000m/ nForce 610m in the notebook along with amd processor. i scrubbed drive c and installed windows xp professional and so far all of my drivers worked except for 3 or 4.

under my device manager, i have yellow ? marks next to Coprocessor, ethernet contoroller twice, and sm bus controller. im assuming i just need the drivers for these. ive been on hp live chat and i cant seem to find the ones that i need.

ANY IDEAS? please help save a computers life, as i am at the end of my patience with this.

Re: having problems with chipset driver...

You can run XP games on Vista by checking compatability with XP SP2. But, since you already installed XP, might as well stick with it. Can you list the exact names of each as listed in device manager? It's easier to find the drivers :)

EDIT: Are you running 32-bit XP or 64-bit?

Re: having problems with chipset driver...

You need the XP Chipset drivers first . . then reload the others. If they offer it, you should be able to download from the HP support site.

Otherwise, you may be able to chase them down individually from alternate sources. Download and run the Unknown Device Identifier . . it will id most devices even without drivers being loaded

Re: having problems with chipset driver...

Hi Smokie45,
Thanks for the PM. Use this driver for the coprocessor:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._13118,00.html

It is the 2nd one from the BOTTOM of the list.
Download and install, then REBOOT

I have suscribed to this thread so if you have a problem please post it.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: having problems with chipset driver...

Hi,
Follow the steps in this thread: COMPAQ PRESARIO F700 AND G6000 SERIES WITH A AMD PROCESSOR (ONLY) XP DRIVERS

Review the procedure to make sure you have done it in order.

Vista to XP Downgrade Compaq/ HP F700/G6000/DV6900/DV6700/DVx7xx/DV9800 Series Laptop

If you have not installed the MS UAA Driver do that first.
The Modem has to be manually installed as per directions through the Device Manager. Do Not run the EXE file. You may have to do the same for the Modem.

Let me know how you make out.
Bill

Re: having problems with chipset driver...

For your SP Right click on MY Computer>Properties>General

It will state what your SP is.

You UAA Driver is installed (good)

Are you installing the sound driver EXACTLY like this:

AUDIO:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dg0cmmkm4y4

Extract Files to a folder. Run the installer. If it errors upon installation use device Manager.
From Device Manager, right click "Audio Device on HD".
Choose Update driver.
Check no to connect.
Install from a list or specific location.
Don't search I will choose the driver to install.
In the list of common hardware types, scroll down and select Sound, Video, and Game controllers.
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".
Ignore XP when it complains.
REBOOT.

Thanks,
Bill

Re: having problems with chipset driver...

awesome, my audio driver worked, i don't know what i was doing before, but it is not showing up as needing a driver on my device manager now!

now as far as the one that says modem device on high def audio bus, i tried to install this driver the same way as the audio and when i get to the point where i am browsing for the driver, it doesnt seem to want to show up. i am looking for the driver in the setup file that i downloaded to my desktop correct?

Re: having problems with chipset driver...

Hi

When you download the Modem driver download it to your desktop:

MODEM DRIVER

MAKE a new folder in MY Documents and rename it MODEM.
(You can delete this after we get the modem installed)

Go back to your DESKTOP and EXTRACT the folder to the folder you made in MY Documents (MODEM)

Go to your DEVICE MANAGER and manually install the driver (Like the Audio), but BROWSE to the folder you made in MY Documents (Modem)

DO NOT run the EXE file.

Let me know how you make out.
Thanks,
Bill

HI,
I am glad to hear you finally have it up and running.

Pat yourself on the back you did the work.

I have done alot of these and I can't get a job with HP or any other PC manufacture because they state I do not have the experience (NO College).

I figure its thier lost and YOUR Gain.
Thanks,
Bill

Grin Re: [SOLVED] having problems with chipset driver...

if i were in the position to do so, i would without hesitation give you the lead IT job at the company that i work for! i let the IT guy have this computer for about 5 hours and he still couldnt come up with anything more than getting one or two drivers to work. i let my neigbor who installs maritime ship based systems for HP, and all he basically did was able to screw up whatever progress i had made!

oh did i mention that i spent approximately 12 hours on hp live chat and all that they were able to do is get HALF of what you did right! If ANYONE deserves a pat on the back and a great job, it's you!

seriously, if you got a degree, you would breeze through a job like this!

Thanks so much!
