Halo CE Problem
I am expierencing a problem with Halo CE trial, everytime i play it says "A problem occured initializing DirectDraw. Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG" so i run DXDIAG and i find out that direct draw, direct3d, and AGP texture accelerations are all not available and in notes it says "The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. To test direct draw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.Direct3d functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is the final version from the hardware manufuncturer." (I am using direct x 9.0 c)
So i went to divice manager to try and install the latest driver but when i got there the display adapters option wasen't there. This did not happen when i had windows 2k. Please help Last edited by deathkid874; 08-18-2008 at 11:30 AM. |

Re: Halo CE Problem
Hi, welcome to TSF
What graphics card do you have? Go to the manufacturer's website for the latest compatible XP driver. The 2 most common graphics card names are ATI and nvidia. Download the correct driver, then disable antivirus, install the driver and reboot. Then install the latest DirectX (Aug'08) and reboot again to complete.

Re: Halo CE Problem
Go to Start > Run > dxdiag > Display tab and post back with everything listed in the Device and Drivers sections.
Is it onboard or a graphics card?

Re: Halo CE Problem
Can you play any other games on this computer? Has Halo ever worked before?
Download Everest and go to Computer > Summary, then post back with the motherboard details. The date for your driver is 2001. Is this an old computer? The quickest way to tell if it's onboard or a card is to look at the back of the computer to see where the monitor is plugged into.

Re: Halo CE Problem
Looks like it's an onboard.
Heres the motherboard details: Motherboard CPU Type Intel Celeron, 2400 MHz (24 x 100) Motherboard Name Unknown Motherboard Chipset VIA P4M800 Pro System Memory 352 MB BIOS Type AMI (02/15/06) Communication Port Communications Port (COM1) Communication Port Communications Port (COM2) Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1) and yes my computer is old. While i was checking my motherboard information i found this under it: Display Video Adapter VIA/S3 UniChrome Pro 3D Accelerator VIA/S3 UniChrome Pro Halo did work when i had win 2k on this computer. Also another direct X game is the hunting unlimited series they worked on win2k and i frgot to mention win98 i use to have it on this computer and hunting unlimited worked on it but halo didn't but it was not the same problem Last edited by deathkid874; 08-18-2008 at 04:34 PM. |

![]() You can download a more recent graphics driver for the VIA S3 (P4M800 chipset) from here. Disable antivirus, install the driver and reboot. Then install the latest DirectX (Aug'08) and reboot again to complete. Run the 2 tests in dxdiag under the Display tab. If there are no problems listed in the Notes after the tests have finished, try playing Halo again.

Re: Halo CE Problem
I've downloaded the file and scanned it with Avira. No problems found. And the website is listed as 'Safe' by McAfee Site Advisor.
