[SOLVED] Network controller driver

I recently reformatted a laptop to Xp. I had the driver disc that came with the computer but for some reason even after instaling all the drivers on the disc it still shows in the Device Manger that the 'Network Controller' is missing the driver. At first I though this was the ethernet card, but the drivers for that are instaled and working. What exactly is the Network Controller? Thanks guys!
