Wink SndVol.exe

OK Guys, I lost it...So now what do I do? The lovely wifey 'misplaced' the XP CD and I can't find it anywhere. My volume control states that the SbdVol.exe can't or isn't installed and I should go to the CD... See story above. Microsoft says it's down to Skype to install but I haven't found anything by them or from them that states that's the case.
So help an old boy out, please...

Have a look at this previous post, see if it helps you.....
Sndvol.exe
It belongs in the System32 folder.

Re: SndVol.exe

As my original story states, I have lost the original CD, apart from going out and buying another, can anyone give me a clue? - Someone from Tech support maybe? I've tried Microsoft...
Need I say more?

Re: SndVol.exe

Terry,
Did you read the link I gave you.
The guy found a copy on his C:Drive by doing an advanced search (include hidden and system files etc). Try it youself.
Be careful of downloading a copy, as there is trojans of the same name.

Re: SndVol.exe

Tried all that, no help. It's getting stupid and I really can't see any other way around it but to buy another copy of XP. Ideas?

Re: SndVol.exe

Hi,
BTW the name of the file you want is sndvol32.exe
Google.......it must be available somewhere. I doubt if system restore replaces exe files, but feel sure you don't need to buy a new XP. You must know someone else with a pc who has a disc.
I'll search online also.

Re: SndVol.exe

I've just found the spare one on my hard drive......
It's in Windows/System32/dllcache
You'll need to have your folder options set to view hidden & system files.
You know how to do this?

Thanks a million Houndog, I downloaded it and it's sitting on my desktop! Where should I shove it? (Sorry, where should I put it?)

Re: SndVol.exe

Windows/system32

Did you find the spare one in Windows/system32/dllcache?
That'd be the best one to copy over to the system32 main folder.

Re: SndVol.exe

No HD, I downloaded it from the site you gave me. Should I drag it into system32 main folder and then restart?
P.S. As you may have gathered, I'm an old f**t who knows nothing about PC's

Re: SndVol.exe

As I mentioned before, there was no copy in Windows/system32/dllcache. It doesn't exist.

Re: SndVol.exe

Hi,
just right-click on it and select Cut. Then navigate to your windows folder, right click on System32 and select Paste.
Restart and see if it works.
