Usb to rs232 converter
Hi,
I have a USB to RS232 converter which i need to install desperately.Problem is i don't have the disc which contains the driver.I have tried downloading a generic driver off the net but that does not seem to work. Also, this converter does not have a manufacturer's name or part number. How do i go about installing this device without the above mentioned stuff.Any help will be highly appreciated Thanks |

Re: Usb to rs232 converter
Try Google for "drivers" and you should get hits to sites that have online driver scanner options. These will scan your system and show you what drivers you should download/update.
You do need to have the converter installed for the scanner to see it, BUT if it does not show in Device Manager this method may not work. The other hitch is these services are NOT free. Are you sure there are NO markings on the converter card? None at all ![]() Try Google for anything on the card.

Re: Usb to rs232 converter
I did try the scan option, managed to download a program called DRIVER DETECTIVE,with the converter device plugged in,it sees the device and states that no driver is found (which i had expected),i then clicked on the download driver for the device, but as you said it to be a pay service
Darn! lol...The device has just two labels, a S/N number ( S/N: UT 20078581) and the second label states "USB to RS-232". Out of desparation i googled the S/N number, that was unsuccessful... Thanks for the post Tecknomage. Much appreciated ![]() |

Re: Usb to rs232 converter
Hi, when you have this adapter connected, does it show up in Device Manager?
If so, right-click on it's name, or unknown device as it probably will be called. Select Properties, then Details and look for the Hardware and Device ID's from the drop-down list. Post back with the info it gives.
