No sound after reinstall
Hi Guys
We just bought an Advent 5301 laptop from PC world, it came with Vista which we didn't really want so I reinstalled a copy of XP. Everything seems fine but I can't get sound to work. Device manager shows no problems, no yellow question or exclaimation marks. I tried uninstalling and reinstaling the sound drivers from add remove programs but it gives me a message saying uninstal failure, I'm at a loss as to what else to try thanks in advance for any help Henry |

Re: No sound after reinstall
Hi,
It may not be uninstalling the drivers because they, or an associated service are in use. Or there was an error during installation. You could try uninstalling the drivers, and any realtek software, from Add/Remove Programs in Safe Mode. Restart and reinstall. Enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 repeatedly during boot/startup. Post back with the outcome please.

Re: No sound after reinstall
Hi,
Do you have an entry for Realtek in Device Manager>Sound, Video & Game Controllers? If you do, right-click on it and select uninstall and restart. If not, and there are no yellow warning signs next to anything, go into BIOS and ensure that your sound card is enabled.

Re: No sound after reinstall
Houndog I solved the problem! after another reinstall it occured to me to try another XP disk and hey presto everything worked fine, all I can think is there must have been something wrong with the first one even though it looked fine to me. Thanks a million for your help
