[SOLVED] formatted from Vista to XP, need Drivers ??

Hello,

Here's my problem, I bought an HP AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 5600+ that came with Vista. I had lots of problems with the vista and hated it so I formated and put XP Pro Media Center 2005 on it like I have on my second computer I am using as I write.

My problems now are if i go into Device Manager / other devices, I have yellow icons beside the following.......

PCI Bridge Device
PC Device
PCI simple communications controller
SM Bus Controller

I can't connect to my highspeed internet because it can't find a connection, I have a connection shown as 1394 Net adapter. It's says connected/Firewalled but does nothing that I can see

Can somebody please help me ?? And I do donate from time to time as I have been helped here greatly in the past...

Thanks,
Darryl

Re: formatted from Vista to XP, need Drivers ??

Well it doesn't look like HP has XP drivers on their site as they refer you to the component makes for XP drivers. Looks like you have an ECS motherboard, but I'm not positive as to what chipset I believe it to be an Nforce4 with Geforce6150 video but I can't find a listing on on the ECS site. Hang in there somebody may have experience with this model a little later.

Hi,
Try this link for your chipset driver (Nvidia GeForce 6150SE/NForce 430):
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp_15.18.html
This should take care of most of your issues.
Check your device manager after installing the chipset driver and post any errors.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: formatted from Vista to XP, need Drivers ??

Hey Bill, Thanks alot that fixed all my problems in my device manager. Maybe you can help me with one more issue now or maybe I will have to post it in another area ??

I bought a Graphics card for this computer because the onboard Geforce 6150 doesn't have a video output.

So I went and bought an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro. I have installed it properly with the drive package and updated to the lates which was JUne 18 th but I still have the same problem with it as I did when I was trying it with vista. One of the reasons I chaned it to XP. I can't get the output to the TV.

When I open the ATI Catalyst Control Panel it detects the Svideo to the TV (Display 2) but does not enable it. When I right click on the 2 Display and enable it, it looks like it enables except no picture on the TV still and it allows me to check the extend to desktop box if I want but as soon as I click APPLY the screen flickers for a second and then it asks if I want to save changes but it has already reverted back to it original state which was only Display 1 enabled.

I have tried it over and over every way I can think of, I have reinstalled the software and it still won't work...

Any ideas ??

Thanks again Bill,

Darryl

Re: [SOLVED] formatted from Vista to XP, need Drivers ??

Hi, I didn't have to do anything like that, just before you format with XP download the NVidia file from the link above in BCComp's post. After you Install XP, then install the Nvidia Driver you downloaded and that should do it. Your D: Drive should have the Vista Recovery on it, when formatting leave that drive alone that way if you do run into a problem for some reason you can always go back to Vista and that is very quick.

Re: [SOLVED] formatted from Vista to XP, need Drivers ??

I'm having the same problem with my new computer, exact same model as dashingw. I installed the nvidea drivers as mentioned above (by the way, the link no longer works) and the ethernet works now, but I don't get any sound out of the speakers. (Yes, I have them turned on :P) Anyways, in control panel, it says that there is no audio device. In the device manager, there are still two unknown devices: 'PCI Device' and 'PCI simple communications controller. I've already tried to search for audio drivers with no luck. Hope you computer guys can help me out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Kevin
