Sound card driver not working

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, but I hope someone will be able to help me. The whole thing is a bit complicated so I will start from the begining - I was having some pretty common (as I recently found out) issues with my new graphics card (Sapphire ATI Radeon HD2600XT AGP) - mainly crashes with BSOD and following system reboots. I tried many driver releases and DriverCleaner tool to wipe them out between installations. Thing is I might have deleted some WDM drivers connected to my old AIMS lab VHX TV capture card as well.
When I tried to reinstall them, the system crashed again (I think I've got used to it already). While trying to install those drivers again I discovered that after the reboot some devices such as audio (onboard SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio), DVD burner (LG) and one of the system devices (I don't remember which one, some sort of Plug&Play) were not working (and I mean as in "not working at all") and the device manager showed the yellow question marks in font of their icons.

I removed the devices from the system and after reboot installed them again (had to run the add hardware wizard). The DVD works fine, but the audio driver not. The device manager shows that it's up and running but I get no audio (except PC speaker beeps), winamp shows error: Bad DirectSound device. Error code: 88780078. The audio tab in dxdiag is empty, showing only "No sound card detected." In control panel - sounds and audio devices: the volume control is not accessible and there are no devices selectable (the list is "grayed") for the input or output (though the SoundMax Wavetable Synth for MIDI is working). The sound card itself is listed in the hardware tab, and all multimedia devices in the "Properties" window, after clicking on properties tab, are set to use their functions, but there's also a message that the driver is enabled but not running (I hope my translation won't misguide you when following my steps :).

I tried to reinstall the sound driver from the original CD (I was looking up for newer version, but I was unable to find anything but 64-bit release). I searched a few forums, but none has helped me. A few people out there had a similar problem (something wrong with WDM driver), but there was no solution except - format your HDD and do a clean install.

My config:
OS - Windows XP Professional SP3
MB - Asus K8V Deluxe
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3000+
RAM - 2x512MB DDR (unknown vendor)
GPU - Sapphire ATI Radeon HD2600XT AGP
onboard sound card - SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio
AIMS Lab VideoHighway Xtreme (using Conexant's BtPCI WDM Video Capture driver)

I'll appreciate your help

Re: Sound card driver not working

I don't know, I guess it's plain chip. I don't remember any "HD audio" in the specification.

I'll try the first link, the second one is actually where I found the driver for my TV tuner card.

Re: Sound card driver not working

Sorry for being inactive for a while - I was doing last of my spring exams.

I installed wdm driver from asio4all.com but nothing has changed. The app shows everything's ok, but I still can't hear a thing (except that annoying pc speaker beep)

Yeah, I found that driver too, but I thought it was not compatible. However, I gave it a try, but then an error appeared during installation. The message was approximately: "No compatible hardware found" and I was not able to finish the setup.
