Need standard IDE Controller driver(s) for Win2000
I've changed motherboard to an Asus P4PE and can't get my CD ROM to work. Best guess is that IDE Controller driver on my Win2000 installation is not matching up with the Asus P4PE motherboard. I need to go back to a standard IDE Controller driver to get the CD ROM to work so I can install Win2000. Then I can go to an Asus specific driver...but first things first.
Does anyone know where I can find the standard IDE controller driver(s). John |

Re: Need standard IDE Controller driver(s) for Win2000
jbclem,
When you say you've changed your motherboard - are you trying to boot an installation of Windows that was running on a DIFFERENT motherboard on the NEW ASUS motherboard? If so, this is a problematic configuration. This is because the chipsets, devices, drivers, etc. are different from one motherboard model to the next. In this scenario, the best bet would be to reboot from the XP Install CD and install XP on TOP of the old hardware's install of XP. If you're not willing to do this, you can boot into SAFE mode, go into the Device Manager, uninstall the Hard Drive controllers/devices, reboot and let Windows re-detect ad re-install the correct drivers for the hardware you're now using. If you have the XP Install CD that's installed on the hard drive - configure your new ASUS MB's BIOS to boot from that CD and Install - but DO NOT re-partition or re-format that drive, instead, install XP to the SAME location that it's installed now. This will force XP to re-detect all the new hardware on your new motherboard, while leaving your existing files/programs in place. - John |
