Slave CD-Rom now showing up...
I recently decided to go back to Windows XP 64 Pro as many of the programs and drivers needed were now compatable than orignally available when it first came out.
When crashing the system I decided to add on an older cd-rom drive, Its a 52x read rom. Nothing special, but much faster at ripping those cd's onto my computer for my mp3 player than my dvd burner does, it only goes about 8x. This drive worked just fine as a slave in another computer I use, i set it up the same way on this computer. Master and slave set up.. The little thing you put over the pins in the back, connected them both to the same IDE and confirmed 2 times that its connected to the primary IDE slot on my motherboard. Both drives have power and are firmly connected to the IDE ribbon. They've been checked several times. Made sure the master / slave pins were set correctly. But only my master rom drive will show up. The slave wont even show up in Bios or disk managment. Is it possible I have to install an actual driver for this cd-rom drive as its prob a good 12-15 years old? I didn't on my last few computers, but maybe since this computer is newer or cause I'm now using windows xp 64 pro? Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Aetrox |

Re: Slave CD-Rom now showing up...
Good thinking...
Unfortunatley a no go. Unless I'm not setting it up correctly. Looking in my device manager, it is set to Auto Detection> DMA if available. Current Transfer Mode is Ultra DMA Mode 2. Here is a screenshot of what I see... http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...damian/IDE.jpg What to do... What to do.
