Help! Missing several drivers.
Hello all, I'd like to take the time to thank everyone reading this in advance.
My laptop recently had a registry issue, and would not boot up. I tried using a restore point, which got be past the load screen, but instead of a desktop I got a black screen with a cursor. After this, it would not let me access my other restore points, it would request a password that does not exist. So I went over to a friends house and borrowed his Windows XP Pro disk, since I had issues with other windows files, I decided to delete the partition and reinstall it. Completely forgetting that it probably didn't have the drivers for my lap top on the disk... So I now have a huge list of hardware that wont work. My sound in particular wont work, neither will my wireless. I used an unknown device identifier program to get drivers to let me use SOME of my ethernet card. If I plug it in, I can browse the internet. When I use Firefox or IE I get this weird laggy deal. So I've been unable to find drivers for the other items. Does anyone have the drivers for a Dell Latitude D600 With XP Professional? Or a Restore disk or something? I browsed the internet, but can't afford the 10-20$s they are asking for a replacement disk. I am unemployed, and just can't spare the money right now. This is a last resort for me. Thank you again for all your help! |

Re: Help! Missing several drivers.
Hi,
Welcome to TSF. Here is a link for your drivers: http://support.dell.com/support/down...WW1&hidlang=en Can you post a screen shot of you device manager? Here is how: http://www.techsupportforum.com/cont...icles/151.html If you could run Everest under my signature it may help us narrow your devices down. Thanks, Bill |

A screenshot of the Device Manager:
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...g?t=1210746933 First out of two screenshots from the Unknown Device window: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...g?t=1210747003 Second: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...g?t=1210747038 And the attachment is a hardware report from Everest. (Really helpful program by the way, thanks a bunch. Unfortunately... when I learned what Wireless driver I actually NEEDED, It kept encountering an error half way through installation and crashing. I had to uninstall the driver and restart my computer, because it was keeping my ethernet card from working as well.) Hope this helps. This lap tops registry issues, driver issues, random bouts of lag for no particular reason, and inability to install any drivers after I finally find them are really beginning to frustrate me. It also wont let me use any sort of messenger program. I downloaded Java, but still can't use things like, digichat programs, for example. Whenever I scroll on a web browser, it always does this weird laggy crawl thing. It makes scrolling very frustrating. Hope this helps you all to help you help me. |

Re: Help! Missing several drivers.
Hi
Thank you for the info. Now we can get to work. First, is this a legit copy of XP Pro? Only asking due to the fact a pirated copy can cause issues and is also illegal. A copy maybe defective. Did you run into any errors during install? With that said, Please do this in order. Uninstall the sound driver you have installed. At this link please download these drivers in order. http://support.dell.com/support/down...WW1&hidlang=en You may have to use a PC that is able to get on the net to save to CD the drivers for install. Reboot after installing each driver. CHIPSET- http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=149851 02 SMART CARD Reader- http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=149869 VIDEO- http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=148994 NETWORK-LAN http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=176964 NETWORK-Wireless is the 2915ABG Driver here: http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=207280 This will get you on the net now do a full Microsoft Update! Once done install the Modem driver here: http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=134322 Sound driver here: http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=118248 Go back to the device manager and Post any errors. This should get you up and running. Let me know if you run into errors. Thanks, Bill |

The Windows version I'm using was borrowed from a friend, it's on a blank disk so I don't know it's a copy of his older brothers, or what.
Here is an error I get whenever I start up: http://s293.photobucket.com/albums/m...ErrorsPrt1.jpg Device Manager pic: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...g?t=1210787519 Whenever I would try to use AIM or Trillian, I'd get an error message. I reinstalled AIM after this, and don't get any messages now. It just doesn't start up at all, and is not listed under processes or Applications. Screenshot of Trillian Errors this time around: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...g?t=1210787603 Second Message after closing the first: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...g?t=1210787645 My Stats: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...g?t=1210787783 Thanks again for your time, and help so far! Everything is running pretty smoothly at this point, other than random bouts of lag, an absurd amount of time needed to shut down, and the Instant Messager Embargo deal. |

Re: Help! Missing several drivers.
Have you done a full MS Update?
Installed both Lan, wireless card & modem driver? Try this UAA Driver: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOU...on-Audio.shtml Install and reboot. Please post errors in the device manager. Thanks, Bill |

Re: Help! Missing several drivers.
The Audio Driver resulted with the same Device Manager errors as the last screenshot.
I'm having problems finding a site to do a full update. I tried googling microsoft update, and I ran the updater, but it still doesn't seem to be fully upgraded. |

Re: Help! Missing several drivers.
I am beginning to think you have a pirated copy.
I will give it one last shot. Go to Start>All Programs. In the upper left side column (If you have 2 rows) you should see Windows Update. Click to see if you can connect to MS to get the updates. You may be prompted for validation. Does it pass the validation? My last resort is to reinstall XP from scratch (If it updates). If you were playing with drivers before you contacted us you may have corrupted the install Thanks, Bill Last edited by BCCOMP; 05-14-2008 at 07:27 PM. |

Re: Help! Missing several drivers.
It passes validation just fine, and I'm downloading updates until it tells me there aren't anymore.
The only driver I messed with before here was the LAN, and that's working fine and all. |

Re: Help! Missing several drivers.
Well thats a good sign!
When you get done with the updates, please reboot. Go back to MS Updates and choose "custom" install. Let it run through. See if there are any updates for Hardware on the left side of the screen. I am still concerned about the error message you are getting along with the errors you still have in the device manager. Let me know |
