DVD Rom Stopped Working...

My sister asked me to help her with her DVD Rom's inability to eject. She said that it was working fine up until she put a cd that she had recently copied in. The drawer couldn't open and the cd was still in it. So i used a peperclip to get the cd out. but then the drawer won't open anymore, that is unless I use a paper clip. the drive wont even show up on the device manager or on my computer. I don't know alot about computers so simple instructions would help me alot... any help would be greatly appreciated...

Re: DVD Rom Stopped Working...

burn02,

You can open up your PC and re-seat the power and ribbon cables on this drive (as well as the ribbon cable plugged into the motherboard). Also, try switching the power cord with a free power cord coming from the power supply. Shutdown and power-cycle the PC and see if the drive is recognized. If you know how, go into the PC's BIOS setup program and see if the DVD drive is recognized here.

If none of this helps - then the drive is basically dead and needs to be replaced.

Re: DVD Rom Stopped Working...

burn02,

Could be a loose power cord on the back of the drive -OR- some power saving setting in the device's driver or Windows Power management settings that's powering OFF the drive after certain periods of inactivity.

Glad it's working again!
