IDE raid on ASUS K8V SE Deluxe
Hi, I read the guide here on how to setup and configure a raid windows installation, however I have been stuck at STEP 5 for quite a while now. Before I start to describe the issue, here is my hardware setup that pertains to this issue:
-64 bit athlon 3000+ -2x160GB WD IDE identical drives -ASUS K8V SE DELUXE motherboard -Floppy drive I am trying to setup a Raid 0 configuration for high performance and I am using two IDE drives connected to the channel on the motherboard that is physically seperate from the other two ide channels. Both drives are on the same ide cable and I am trying to install windows xp (32bit). My main issue is that I am confused as to which driver I should download due to my motherboard having two separate controllers: VIA and Promise. I am not sure which controls the sata and which controls the ide. I have the original cd that came with the motherboard and have created a flopppy with 32bit promise 378 raid drivers on it using "makedisk.exe". However, when I attempt the windows installation using F6 to install 3rd party raid drivers it says something to the effect of "fasttxk2 has caused an error in oemdisk.c" something like that I can't remember exactly. Anyways windows will not find the drive array when the installation continues and forces me to quit (F3). I am also confused as to whether I need a 64bit driver (i have a 64bit processor) even though I am just installing 32 bit windows. I have been trying to figure this one out for hours and would really appreciate some help on this. Thanks. |
