Confused Radeon HD 3870 X2 issues in crysis

okay guys, I am just a tad lost here. I bought an ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 [quite a step up from a GeForce 6600] and started drooling over my display quality. I installed Crysis [which I've had since christmas] and the game runs seamlessly on medium settings [can run on high, but gameplay is just a tad laggy at times]. However, I recently got to the part where your fighting that wierd thing on the aircraft carrier, and I can't seem to get more than about 10 fps on all low settings..... I was able to run the game on all medium settings and maxed resolution until now. It's not my processor holding me back or else my cores would max out [they do average around 70%, but never maxed] and if it's ram then aparently 8gb still isn't enough for crysis. if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. here's my comp specs off the top of my head:

Windblows Vista Home Premium x64
Asus Maximus Formula x38 chipset MB
intel duo core processor @ 1.6 GHz clocked at 2.62 GHz
8gb [4x2 gb G.SKILL ram]
650 watt corsair modular power supply
some random watercooling assembly
750GB hard drive

Re: Radeon HD 3870 X2 issues in crysis

this is supposed to be a tech support forum..... have I put forth an issue that the almighty Interwebz cannot solve?

also, another issue that has arisen: I play Team Fortress 2 on all high settings and when I'm killed by an enemy player, my screen flickers between two pictures [the picture of the person who killed me AND the picture of the person who killed me before IE this death and my last death] very rapidly and in large horizontal bars. I'll try and use a vid capturing program so I can show you guys whats happening.

Anyway, any suggestions [aside from stupid things like "do you have updated drivers?" seeing as my card only has one driver version out because it's only about 1 month old] are very welcome.

Re: Radeon HD 3870 X2 issues in crysis

Just a suggestion. You are probably not going to like this. But, you may have to much RAM in your system. I know that sounds crazy, but some games can not handle that much RAM. Which results in slow execution, i.e FPS rate going lower and lower. The Game Specs call for 2.0GB of RAM. You are running at 4 TIMES that amount. That HAS to have an affect on the operation of the machine and the software.

Just try it with a lower memory configuration and see if the performance does go up a bit?

Just my 2 pennies worth.

Re: Radeon HD 3870 X2 issues in crysis

Different parts of Crysis use different graphics qualities. WHat you are experiencing is simply the limit of your card. You will have to fine tune as you go or lower the settings and put up with it. The 3870 isn't brilliant, particularly with AA. Turn AA down and it will solve it imho.
