Alienware Area 51 M5790
My son purchased this from ztronics in December and it works great but there is a problem with the utilities disk--he tries to start it in auto run and gets the message that the disk cannot be read. He clicks the icon and same message. He can and did load them manually, one at a time, but I don't understand why he cannot do autorun. Further, ztronics has not replied to two e-mails that I sent about this issue. Any ideas?
(Yes, the CD works with all other disks and plays videos) |

The other possibility is that the CD has become damaged. If you suspect this? Then hold the disk near a florescent light, and very carefully look at the reflection of the light on the surface of the disk. Any scratches will show up rather clearly. Some minor scratches can be removed with a soft cloth and chrome polish. HTH Bill |

Post the contents of the "AUTORUN" file on the CD, here. It's a pure text file and should be just a few bytes in size and we can work from there. Apparently the program that's listed in the AUTORUN file is executing and giving you an error. But that's a guess on my part, right now. Bill Last edited by brow96; 02-07-2008 at 09:36 PM. |

Simple question. Does SETUP.EXE program give you the same error if you navigate to it and select OPEN from the context menu? If it does then that's the program generating the "No Device Found!" error. Bill |

Re: Alienware Area 51 M5790
Actually I don't think you can do anything about it. The file (SETUP.EXE) is burned into the disk. There is NO WAY to fix that problem. Other than obtaining a new disk.
I suppose, if you had the time and the inclination you could copy all the files to a HD directory and work on the file and see why it's doing what it's doing. But it would be simpler just to get another CD / DVD from the manufacturer. Probably a lot quicker too. Also, you might want to visit the manufacturers site and see if they have copies of the disk there, in ISO format. That way you can download the copy and burn another one. Sorry that there is no real fix for this problem. Bill |
