reformated hard drive what drivers do i need?

Hello im brand new. i woke up the other day to a blue screen asking to install xp...

Dell Inspiron 6000 with Centrino mobile tech.

reformated the hd reloaded xp... ( its one of the original xp home versions.)
everything loaded program wise but im unable to get the network card and what not to work...

when i go to add hardware wizard it has the yellow ? marks with ! on top. im assuming these are missing drivers???

the "drivers" im missing are:

Network Controller
Video Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Modem
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Video Controler (VGA aompatible)
Ethernet Controller
PCI Device

Thanks to any and all who can give me a helping hand here i have been without a computer for the last week trying to figure all this out on my own.

Re: reformated hard drive what drivers do i need?

Greetings blackout06, Welcome to TSF!

The best solution for you would be to go to the Dell™ website, and navigate to "Support" > "Downloads", then enter your Service Tag Number (It's usually on a sticker on the case), and follow the prompts to update your drivers. (Click on the coloured link.)

If you can't find the Service Tag Number, just enter your model details and follow the prompts to have the Dell™ scanner detect what drivers are missing.

Post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

Re: reformated hard drive what drivers do i need?

ah this is getting to be a pain. all of the eathernet/wireless drivers i have found on the dellsupport site seem like they are updates for current drivers? im not sure if that meens i have to have the original driver to actualy update it or what... ( sorry im not the most computer savvy individual out there) does anyone know where i can get the original driver? or something to get me on the net with this so i can do a full update scan?

thanks

Re: reformated hard drive what drivers do i need?

Hi blackout,
I am unsure of the link you are using on the Dell site Is it this one?
http://support.dell.com/support/down...&catid=&impid=
It will be OK to use these drivers. the first one you should install is the CHIPSET driver here:
http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=149851
Then try this driver to get you online:
http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=111674
This is for your hard wired LAN connection
If you can supply a screen shot of the Device Manager that would help. Here is how:

Hope this helps,
Thanks,
Bill

Hi blackout,
You must be typing it wrong or it is not the Key code for the disk. Is this a retail disk or OEM?
Thanks,
Bill
