Question USR_BSC2.sys causing BSOD?

I hope I'm in the right thread for this.

My computer has been having memory dumps that appear to be caused by USR_BSC2.sys. I've tried reinstalling the driver. I've looked for a replacement driver, and failed, also I've reformatted. I'm kind of at a loss for ideas now, and honestly I'm not sure what info you all may need to help me, but if you can let me know, I'll get it for you, I really hope someone knows what's going on here.

Thanks in advance all.
-Merritt

By the way, the stop error was. -if this helps
STOP: 0x000000D1 (0xF2CD4100,0x00000002,0x00000001,0xF7121C3F)

STOP: 0x000000D1 (0xF2CD4100,0x00000002,0x00000001,0xF7121C3F)

Do you have a Logitech Mouse or Keyboard (USB) installed on your system?

USR_BSC2.sys

Part of the Conexant drivers for a USB device. Mostly it's used by your modem, but it has been document to be found in systems that do not have a Conexant modem! BUT, do have Conexant chips.

Basically speaking the STOP Error above says that it's trying to access a part of memory that does not exist. If you have a USB Mouse or a USB Keyboard by Logitech? Then I'd start checking the batteries. Strange things happen when a battery powered USB device starts dying.

Also, could you please post the complete STOP Error message?

HTH

Re: USR_BSC2.sys causing BSOD?

I'll have to wait until it crashes on me again, I think. That is, unless someone can gather more information from the dump logs.

If nothing can be found from that. I should ahve the full message in a couple days.

Also, as far as the USB mouse/keyboard, I don't have either, or anything that's using USB for that matter. However, I do use a conexant Dial-up modem.

Re: USR_BSC2.sys causing BSOD?

Okay, it has happened again, and here is the BSOD(summarized):
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

It tells me to check newly added hardware or software, there isn't any. then it goes on to say Disable BIOS Memory options such as caching and shadowing. (I'm not sure what that means)

Techical Information:
STOP: 0X000000D1 (0XF2C69100, 0X00000002, 0X00000001, 0XF7121C3F

Beginning dump of physical memory

Physical memory dump complete.

That would be it. I've researched this before and had no luck, I'm sure you're smarter than me though.

thanks in Advance

Is this modem an internal modem, i.e. in a slot on the motherboard? Or, an external one? Reason I ask is that if you have no USB devices attached to you computer? Then simply turn off the USB support and everything will be ok. UNTIL you need the USB services. Then error will come back.

IF that modem is a USB device? Then a removal via the "Add / Remove Programs" section of your Control Panel should help a lot. Then a re-installation of the drivers might be in order.

Re: USR_BSC2.sys causing BSOD?

It's an internal pci, so...I just disabled the USB's. I'll restart and see what happens,

Thanks muck, Bill

Re: USR_BSC2.sys causing BSOD?

Okay, Well...It's happened again.
What I did was went into Device Manager and disabled the USB Ports.

Is that what I was supposed to do?

I sort of hope I didn't do it right, then I can just correct my error.

Thanks

(Key word) IF you have NO USB devices attached or you do not plug in the occasional USB stick? Then Disable the USB in your BIOS. Disabling the device in the Device Manager does NOT prevent the loading of the driver! It merely stops access to the driver by the system. This, unfortunately, does NOT prevent errors from occurring when the driver is loaded. If / When you disable the USB in the BIOS it will NOT load the driver.

This part is PURE speculation. IF the error still occurs, i.e. it's still reporting and error in USR_BSC2.sys? Then the problem is NOT related to a USB device of any type. I'd start looking into removing the modem drivers next. Rebooting and see if the error still occurs. Make sure you have a copy of the Modem installation files BEFORE you remove the modem. If you need assistance in locating the drivers for this device? Feel free to ask here.

HTH
