8800gt vista64, starts fine then no signal

I'm not sure if this is about Vista or Drivers, but i'm going to go with drivers. Recently I bought Windows Vista Ultimate original. So i cleaned up a beta vista I had on a computer (which was working okay, with some bugs). Anyway, I installed 64 bits Vista and I have a problem with my video drivers. When I install the driver (either from the disc or from Vista itself), and I reset the computer, everything goes well but the moment WIndows Starts up, and i'm on the desktop for a few seconds, then the screen looses signal. And I can't get it back until I reboot (which I will loss the signal again as soon as it Windows open up again, unless I'm on safe mode). If I uninstall the driver on safe mode, then I restart normally, this doesn't happen (until I install a driver again). I don't know what to do because without the driver, my video card is kinda useless...
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bits
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 6000
4094 Ram
DirectX 10

My video card is the GeForce 8800 GT, form ASUS. Right now I have no driver installed.

So far, all of the following drivers I've tried have failed to work:
-Driver that comes on Vista
-Driver that comes on the disc with the graphic card (v169.02)
-Driver downloaded From NVDIA, latest available for WIndows 64bit: ForceWare 169.25

Not a single one worked... I really don't know what to do. It starts windows fine... but after a few seconds, monitor goes black and no signal...

Re: 8800gt vista64, starts fine then no signal

Well, I've installed the hotfixes Nvidia recomends for Vista that Microsoft has released, as well as all the updates, and now the driver starts up ok (although after 10k of installs and uninstalls...). BUt is works terrible wrong. It either throws me the "driver stopped working but recovered error" or directly gives me the out of signal error (usually when I open a new windows like Iexplorer or Minesweeper) in a random way (but it doesn't take too long before this happens, and I'm forced to restart which means my computer is pretty useless right now).

I really need some help, I'm asking and looking info about this everywhere. Here are the error reports from my Windows Vista:

VIDEO HARDWARE ERROR
A problem with your video Hardware cause Windows to stop working correctly.

Problem Signature:
Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 11274

Files that help describe the Problem:
WD-20080203-0943.dmp
sysdata.xml
Version.txt

Extra Information about the problem:
BCCode: 118
BCP1: FFFFFA80070F1010
BCP2: FFFFF98003A525F0
BCP3: 0000000000000000
BCP4: 0000000000000000
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1

All of these errors (all exactly the same) are from each time my monitor gives me the "out of signal" error. When I click to look for a solution, it tells me to contact Nvidia. I already submitted a "bug report" on Nvidia website because I couldn't find any support contact. I've sent an E-mail to ASUS support but I'm still waiting for an answer.

The graphic card was working fine before I installed the Windows Ultimate 64, so I refuse to accept the card is damaged. I've been reading that driver version 100.65 (and old one) is the last one that works fine for those with this problem, but I can't install that one (don't know why). I've seen this problem with many system configurations and not just the 8800 GT.

Re: 8800gt vista64, starts fine then no signal

Hello, I'm sorry for Triple Posting, I do not intend to anger you but I'm still waiting for answers. One thing I'd like to add though:

I've installed XP on my second Drive, and with XP the computer works perfectly FINE 100% (except it's 32 bit so I don't have full 4gb ram, but this video-driver problem is not present on XP). This means that my Hardware is working flawless and there is no compatibility issue.

I'm about to call Microsoft, but I'd like to see if you have any ideas. Thank you for your time.

Re: 8800gt vista64, starts fine then no signal

Hi gmgo,
Sorry, if you think we are ignoring you. I can assure you we are not. I thank you for all the info you have provided. I am unsure though in how we can assist you. It seems you have done all you can to try to resolve this. It appears that both nvidia and MS are at fault. I have searched the web (as you have) and I am also unable to find a definite solution.
The only things at this point I can reccomend is to do a Vista Update using custom search to see if MS can come up with anything.
Also, I am wondering what you are using as a power supply. Can you post the specs. I do not think this is related to your problem though it won't hurt to know.
Thanks,
Bill
