Confused Stupid Vista... downgrading to XP

Hey all, I was recently bought a compaq Sr5129 which has all kinds of fancy stuff which I don't need like a SATA cd drives. Anyway, I went ahead downgrading and just cant find the drivers anywhere. On the website they only offer vista drivers. Why is it so anti XP these days?

Anyway, if anyone has the same problems and or compaq as me can you let me know how you solved this.

Thanks

Re: Stupid Vista... downgrading to XP

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
You should never downgrade unless you check first. I hope you backed up your Vista OS.
I'll give it a try.
We will have to find these drivers separately.
Here is the spec sheet of your model:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...454923&lang=en

You will need this to Identify the types of drivers you may need.
This is the first driver you should install (Chipset 945G):
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...=2115&lang=eng
Then be sure to do a full Microsoft update
Sound card Realtek High definition Audio:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...Audio%20Codecs
Graphics Card nvidia 8400GS:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_169.21_whql.html

You may or may not need these. XP may have found some.
When done installing these, go to the device manager and post any errors (highlited in yellow or red exclamation points.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Stupid Vista... downgrading to XP

Hi j.ingham06!!

I hope you already created the Recovery Disc using vista before downgrading. Because if you haven't do so, you might face difficulity to upgrade to vista again in near future (or maybe far future). Furthermore, your Recovery Partition won't be working after you downgrading

Well, this is a link from HP for downgrading from Vista to XP, eventhough its only a guidance

Changing the Operating System from Windows Vista to Windows XP

Hope this helps you a bit

Hi Hazy,
We will try to help you, but please post a new thread under the driver forum. I don't want confusion or this thread hijacked. You also have a different model so please post your make, model. Seeing its a gateway we will need the serial # located on the back of the laptop. If I miss the new POST please PM me.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi hazy!!

Seems you already downloaded to xp, and now facing the driver issue? you might always contact getaway, and send in to you the recovery disc, so that you can actually restore your computer to the factory default settings with the default operating system.

However, if you still insist on using xp instead of vista, you may download the driver personally, one by one for each component inside your computer. only the problem is, if your can't find the suitable driver for your component

However, it is worth giving a try before try to restore your computer to factore settings back

Hope this helps
