Problem with video drivers...
Hey guys. Sorry if this is the wrong section for this, but I don't know where to go. I just signed up last night and checked out the place, and saw some good things. So here is my dilemma...
I recently got a hold of an ECS P4M800PRO-M (LGA775) motherboard, and decided to upgrade from my PC Chips FSB266 K7 motherboard. So I swap out everything, put the new mobo and CPU in, and start it up. It POSTs. I have the OS load, and then the screen goes blank. So I figured maybe something with registry because that has been an issue for a while. So I repair XP, and try again. To no avail, it worked. I updated my BIOS, and restarted. Problem starts up again. Loads into safe mode, but not normal mode. So I backup my files, and do a clean install. I start it up, get all my updates and drivers, restart, log on, and it gets past login, and then I either get a black screen, or my monitor goes to standby from no video signal. So I restart and go into safe mode, works fine, uninstall my video drivers, restart and go back into the normal boot. Boots fine, works fine, until I install the video drivers and restart, and I have to start over again. Is it a problem with my motherboard? Video card? Or what am I doing wrong? I know its a known-good video card, and the motherboard is known-good. I mean. I want the drivers for everything to run smoother, but I can't really have them installed or else XP doesn't start. Any ideas??? My system specs are: Intel P4 3.4 ghz CPU ECS P4M800PRO-M LGA775 socket 1gb RAM Sapphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis 256mb 40gb Maxtor HDD (ide) 200gb Western Digital HDD (ide) 350watt cooler master PSU Hope you guys can help me out. ~Jeremey |

Re: Problem with video drivers...
Hi, welcome to TSF.
![]() Are you sure it's the correct driver you're installing? Also - with the driver installed the card needs more power to run. Any "extra" power plugs you forgot to connect? Try a stronger PSU (450W+). |

Re: Problem with video drivers...
Yes, right video drivers. Used disk that came with video card when I bought it. Tried Omega drivers. PSU and everything worked before the swap. And it only happens when drivers are installed, so it shouldn't be a power problem. Could the AGP chipset on the board be bad???

Re: Problem with video drivers...
Yes, because the new motherboard is an LGA775 and the old one is an AMD socket A. You really think it would be a psu problem? I'll try looking at getting a new one.
But I do have one question. How WOULD it be the PSU if the problem only persists when my drivers are installed??? Last edited by Karbon Killa; 12-12-2007 at 07:21 PM. |

You have tried different drivers. That leaves the PSU (IMHO). |

Re: Problem with video drivers...
Ok, I understand that. I will try to find someone with a working 450w PSU. Just the hard part is actually finding someone in my area that is willing to lend me one. But I will without a doubt find one. Thanks, and I'll reply when I have an answer.

Re: Problem with video drivers...
Ok, my brother had just bought a 575w psu. Thinking "Ok, before he installs it into his computer, I'm going to try and see if it fixes my problem for my computer" (knowing that since its brand new, and well over the wattage I am needing, that it should work in my favor.) Well, I plug it all in, do the driver installs, restart it, and I still have the same problems. I go back into safe mode, uninstall them, and it works perfectly. I also have just tried downloading and installing the VGA drivers for the motherboard, thinking, "Ok, I'll use it until I get this all resolved" and also thinking, that by not using that extra power into the video card, maybe this would fix it. Does the same thing.
So really, what do you think it is? Do you think maybe the power set to my AGP card is too low and the aperture isn't the right size? Could that make a difference? (aperture size with drivers installed staying in the low ranges?) Please help me out. I just want my computer working properly again, without doing another clean install of windows, and re-installing my old mo-bo. Thanks again, ~Jeremey Last edited by Karbon Killa; 12-20-2007 at 02:40 AM. |

Re: Problem with video drivers...
Reinstall the motherboard's chipset driver.
Reinstall DirectX. Then: Download Driver cleaner - don't use the program yet. Uninstall the ATI driver (and the one onboard driver if you havent done that already). Restart Windows in Safe mode and run Driver cleaner. Remove all video driver "remnants", if any. Restart again, this time in VGA mode. Install this driver with anti-virus disabled. |

Re: Problem with video drivers...
This time the screen went blank at login, so I tried putting in my password to see if the computer locked up completely, or if it was just video. After typing in my password and pressing enter with a blank screen, I hard the logon xp sound. SSo I knew just video.Thought maybe my RGB port was bad, plugged in my DVI to RGB converter, before unplugging my monitor cable, and i got some signal. Then after a few seconds. I got the BSOD. Said "corrupt file: ati2dvag.dl, stuck in an infinite loop, driver programming hardware incorrectly, check for driver updates." So I started looking for some of that file around tonight.
Edit: FIXED!!! I was just looking around and came across a lot of people having this problem, and one guy who knows how to fix it. I just did what he wrote to do, tried it, and now it works perfectly with no errors. I thought maybe posting how to fix the ati2dvag.dll infinite loop BSOD error would help some people, so here it is. Enjoy. =) Right click-mouse over My Computer Properties Hardware(Tab) Device Manager(button) Click [+] next to System devices right-mouse on CPU to AGP Controller (or whatever your controller is called, mine was SiS AGP) Update Driver(button) Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) Next(button) Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install. Next(button) Select PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge Next(button) Finish(button) Reboot. Thanks again Eneles for taking your time and really trying to help me out. I really appreciate it. =) ~Jeremey Last edited by Karbon Killa; 12-23-2007 at 12:53 AM. |
