driver question

Hello,
I recently installed windows vista on one of my computers that had windows xp in it. It already had a NIC card in it, which was a 3COM. I tried to connect to the internet, but there was no connection. I went to the device mgr and noticed that I needed the correct drivers. I switched the 3com NIC card to a d-link. To my suprise, it detected my d-link NIC card and I was able to connect to the internet. My question is, why was my computer able to detect the d-link, but not the 3COM?
Thanks

Re: driver question

Just a guess, but maybe the 3COM one was an older model, or a model that isnt yet supported under Vista? As a fairly new OS, there are still lots of hardware support issues.
